Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Haleigh Barker of Healing Grace Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Haleigh Barker.

Hi Dr. Haleigh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in Shell Knob, Missouri, with my parents and two brothers. At 9, we moved to Blue Springs, MO, to be closer with family. From the age of 11, God put Chiropractic on my heart and showed me it would be my calling; my Grandma Barb also had some help! (That’s a story for another day!). I was shown that Chiropractic is something I can do to help others heal and make a difference in someone’s life. Unfortunately, in 2016, my older brother Levi passed away at the age of 26 when I was 24. It broke a part of me that I would never recover. So I decided yet again that I would love on people and help those through the loss of a loved one with my words of encouragement, for whatever they’re worth. I wanted people to feel seen, heard, and cherished.

Chiropractic is that vehicle for me. I graduated from UCM in December 2018 with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science. I then went to Cleveland University Kansas City in January 2019 to get my Doctorate of Chiropractic. Through the tears, trials, and challenges, by the grace of God, I graduated in April of 2023. While in school, my husband James and I had our beautiful daughter, Ava. She and James became my why. Two months after graduating, I opened my chiropractic office, Healing Grace Chiropractic. I realized I had become the first doctor in the family and obtained the first doctorate education in my family’s history. I was so proud. I was terrified, too. I began to experience imposter syndrome. But I relied on God yet again to work through that as well. Now, I can spend my days loving my community and its beautiful families. I plan on continuously developing my pediatrics and prenatal care skills to be the best chiropractor I can be because that’s what my patients deserve.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Losing my brother Levi, losing all of the remaining grandparents I had, having a child in chiropractic school, battling with general anxiety disorder, and balancing life as it was thrown at me. I had to adapt to online learning as COVID hit and learn how to navigate postpartum anxiety while keeping my sanity in chiropractic school; I am also a wife to an Independence Fireman.
