We recently had the chance to connect with Marisol Saldana and have shared our conversation below.
Marisol, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is taking client appointments, going to the gym, answering emails, making dinner, and ending the night at home with my daughter.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Marisol Saldana, a makeup artist, esthetician, and permanent makeup artist based in Omaha, Nebraska and the founder of The Beauty Coven. I help brides and everyday clients look camera-ready while still feeling like themselves, and I train emerging artists to do the same. My specialties include bridal glam and nano brows, along with brow shaping/lamination and lash lifts.
I’m known for luxury-level artistry, no gatekeeping, and a “you but glam” finish that photographs beautifully and lasts. With 12+ years in beauty and 4 years focused on permanent makeup, I’ve really been able to hone in on my skills and shared the knowledge I’ve gained with my students and clients.
Right now I’m expanding my pro trainings and growing my out-of-state bookings in the Chicagoland area, so I can serve more brides and mentor more makeup and brow artists.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad taught me what work really means. He started around eight, taking whatever jobs he could, and he’d tell me how good it felt to earn his own money and buy what he needed—even when it was out of necessity. He immigrated to the U.S. at eighteen. From him I learned that you reap what you sow: show up, keep your word, always invest in yourself, and the results follow.
I grew up in a small town but always felt called to the city and bigger challenges. Even as a kid, I didn’t love being told what to do. I’ve always been self-motivated and ambitious, so entrepreneurship felt natural. I’ve always been creative, and with little to do in my hometown, I found inspiration in celebrity and lifestyle shows. “If they can have that, why can’t I?” I didn’t dream of a wedding; I dreamed of a business. That drive hasn’t changed.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be: stop caring what people think. You don’t have to follow the crowd or every rule to be liked or be“good.” I grew up in a strict household in rural Nebraska where the mindset often felt closed-minded, and school presented only a narrow set of careers. Many people married young, stayed local, and chose traditional paths. That was their lane, but it didn’t have to be mine. Keep dreaming beyond your zip code. Find role models outside your hometown. And only take advice from people who’ve done it, or would do it themselves.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My close friends would say I care deeply about consistency and effort, and about showing up as the best version of yourself—for you and for the people around you. We get one life, and we are the main character of our own lives. That means owning your time and your choices, controlling what you can, editing out what doesn’t serve you, and moving with intent. Of course circumstances differ, but we all have the same 24 hours to invest. Make it count.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I had ten years left, I’d draw a hard line between what matters and what’s just noise. I’d stop second-guessing; especially on big decisions and move with conviction, so I don’t look back wishing I’d acted when I had the time. Less stress, more intention, and choices I can stand behind.
