Today we’d like to introduce you to Titi André.
Hi Titi, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Matalin André, but im mostly known as Titi; I started my small business in 2020 while I was under the supervision of the state, in foster care. It was a very dark time for me, so I needed something to focus my energy on to impact my life positively. I critiqued the practices I learned and utilized them to live sustainably. I currently work with hair, nails, photography, and graphic design. Getting to where I am today required lots of sleepless nights. I learned on the internet how to be self-sufficient; I never wanted to work under anyone, I want to be my own boss. I pushed myself to absorb any information I thought would be useful to me and my business. I completed this starting from studying social media marketing, to designing my logos and setting up multiple websites. When you’re passionate about something, the time you put in doesn’t matter; it just feels natural.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
It has been a roller coaster because I taught myself everything I know. I didn’t have any funding or resources besides my phone and school computer/camera, basically starting from scratch. I started observing other business owners, educating myself, etc. I haven’t had much support until recently, so it has proved to be a challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What sets me apart from others is how quickly I learn and adapt to new situations. This has pushed me and my work to accelerate in such a short period of time. I am known for my creativity in cosmetology; since I was young, I taught myself how to do my hair and nails because it wasn’t easily accessible to me. I also spend much of my time with journalism, in and out of school. I am known for my “freestyle” work; the pieces I put together are balanced and out-of-the-box. I am most proud of the number of people I have helped, put a smile on their faces, or genuinely just pushed to be a better version of themselves.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
The characteristics/qualities I feel are most important to my success are determination, teamwork, and hard work under pressure.
