Rising Stars: Meet Stoney-Doom!

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stoney-Doom! Them and their team share their story with us below:

Stoney-Doom is a Kansas-based music project advocating for Cannabis legalization through a smoke-filled atmosphere of heavy riffs & bongs hits. There are several special guests featured on the album, however, the “live performance” lineup will generally consist of 4 members.

This project was created and organized by just one individual, with the intention of musical experimentation and creative growth. Lyrical themes include medical benefits, government overreach, the realities of Cannabis use, and more. Although the themes are fairly serious, the message is meant to be conveyed in a fun, engaging, and even humorous and witty way.

All of the creative contributors that had a part in the album have been credited for using satirical pseudonyms to protect their privacy and keep the focus on the bigger message… Legalize Cannabis!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The only obstacle that stands in our way is the prohibition of Cannabis!

“Give me liberty; give me weed!” -A Cure for Stoney-Doom.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We’re just a group of goofy potheads looking to express ourselves and our beliefs creatively.

We take inspiration from some of our favorite music and TV shows, although, our musical content and themes aren’t necessarily meant to parody our predecessors.

More so, the themes and lyrics are meant to parody the current social climate and throw shade at the over-governance of current Cannabis laws.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
While the lyrics and basis of all of our music were written and orchestrated solely by one person, many of our friends and peers were summoned to make this project as ridiculously fun and wildly collaborative as possible.

Our debut album features contributions from a total of 14 Eastern Kansas-area stoners, including special guests from area bands such as Bleed The Victim (Topeka), Gourmand (Kansas City), Keef Mountain (Kansas City), Kohnerah (Kansas City), Damned by the Pope (Kansas City), and Plastic Windows (Topeka).

Album credits: Deph Blazed (Drums), Mr. Bongstorm (Bass/Mixing), Vapes Dankley (Bass/Vocals/Bong Solo), Weed Doctor (Bong Solo), Bluedream the Great (Bass/Keyboard/Mixing), Mr. Greenday (Character Design), Hairy the Hydroponic (Guitar), Irie (Vocals), Sticky Space Kush (Guitar Solo), Captain Kusher (Vocals), Bong Masters (Vocals), Dr. Nicedab (Vocals), Schwaggy Roaches (Guitar/Vocals/Bong Solo), and Doobie Stoopid (Drums/Guitar/Vocals/Bong Solo/Mixing & Mastering).

Very special thanks to Doobie Stoopid for the constant support and assistance – including providing a practice and recording space/recording, mixing and mastering all of the music/contributing drum, guitar, and vocal tracks/constantly fine-tuning and repairing our gear/fine-tuning our tones and levels to improve our overall sound/ & so many more generous acts.

Thank you also to Mr. Greenday for conceptualizing and sketching the character designs.

Shout out to Sisters of Sound Records (Manhattan, KS) for being the first to let us put our album in a physical store; KCTK Radio & Counter-Clockwise KC for being the first to broadcast our music on public radio; and to all the various small businesses that have allowed us to display our promotional content.

Last, but never least, thank you to all of our family, friends, and spouses for their constant support, help to promote, and continuing to tolerate loud band practices!

Oh yeah! Huge thank you to William Hanna and Joseph Barbera for producing the greatest tv show of all time! And thank you to Cannabis… “I love you sweet leaf, though you can’t hear. Oh, yeah baby!” -Black Sabbath.
