Rising Stars: Meet Scott O’Neil

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott O’Neil.

Hi Scott, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Celtic Holsters did not want to make holsters like everyone else; we wanted to make a functional, comfortable and safe holster like no other company had. The Wee Deluxe was that hybrid holster; it was a single swivel clip holster. We use molded leather front over the kydex to hold the clip in place, so it is tuck-able and still swivels. The swivel allows the holster to be worn appendix, hip or small of the back and helps hide the grip in your body for concealment. Over the next eight years, we have upgraded the Wee Deluxe and now have the Deluxe V2 with a next-level retention.

We moved our workshop to Leavenworth, KS, in 2020 and opened our first retail/workshop. You are able to come in pick upholsters, belts, shoulder rigs, beard balm, hand balm and much more. Downtown Leavenworth has been a wonderful move for us, they have welcomed us with open arms and we love the area.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like with any business, there are struggles. We walked into the middle of an industry we were fairly new to, along with companies who have been in this for years. With holsters, it is extremely easy to get lost in the shuffle; close to 80% of the holsters on the market look so similar it is hard to tell them apart. You want to stand out not just in looks but a great product. We are making a product people rely on to keep them safe, secure their firearms and be comfortable. The biggest challenge is firearms; they come out with new ones every year, which makes keeping up to some of those challenges hard. We use molding mock-ups (blue gun) to mold from and they do not always have the newest model or some of the older ones.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our design is unique and sets us apart from everyone else. Being able to have custom kydex made and then put a shark overlay on the front leather makes it stand out. We can customize the front leather with exotic or laser etching.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Family. This is a family business and our family includes a lot of people who are not blood. Our holsters would not be the level they are without Rick, who is a mentor and had made a huge impact on our product. Rick has been training professional shooters, law enforcement and military for over 40 years. Our gear is put in the hands of people who depend on firearms daily and help us make sure they will stand up and if there is ever a problem, we will fix it.

  • Hybrid holsters start at $70
  • All kydex holsters start at $60
