Rising Stars: Meet Peter & Grace Assad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter & Grace Assad. Their team shares their story with us below:

Creativity drew Peter and Grace together. Peter first saw Grace singing in a choir at his church at age 16, and Grace first saw Peter one year later at a piano at a camp playing a song he wrote.

Although Peter and Grace disagree as to how and when they first met, music was clearly at the center from the very beginning.

Peter worked up the nerve to email Grace under the guise of wanting her to sing in a talent show with him, and the rest is history.

Throughout their marriage, they have always been partners. This partnership for much of their marriage meant cheering one another on in their endeavors both in employment and ministry.

But 2020 shifted something in both their hearts; they realized their creative potential could be magnified if they worked together. Their business, poems of grace, was born in 2021 as a joint creative effort to utilize all of the unique ways that God has wired them to be poems of His grace.

Peter and Grace’s philosophy of creativity is this. We are made in the image of the Creator God who set us apart from the beginning of time to be living, breathing trophies of His incredible grace.

Because we are made in His image, our creativity points back to Him—the crafting of a sermon, writing of a song, lighting in a photograph, and strokes of a paintbrush are all incredible expressions of His Light, Love, and Beauty, and we get to share it.

We want every area of our life to declare the goodness and majesty of our Creator, and we want you to see it too. We want to encourage others to create for Him and live their lives in such a way that others can’t help but see the beauty too.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We are in our second year as a business, and this is a new endeavor for both of us.

By trade, Peter is a pastor and Grace is a nurse, yet we quickly found ourselves needing to become accountants and marketing specialists! It hasn’t just been about music and art.

Social media marketing is overwhelming at times, and it feels like an uphill battle to get the word out there about what we’re doing (without it simultaneously feeling like it’s the only thing we’re ever talking about. It’s a strangely delicate balance).

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
If I had to sum up our work, it would be generically—Creativity.

Peter takes commissions for watercolor paintings and speaking engagements—for camps and conferences. Grace writes for their blog and books and is an aspiring artist. We both are songwriters and musicians who love to make music for the Church.

The Story is our joint project from 2021—it includes an album of 12 original songs, an accompanying devotional containing explanations behind each of the songs, and 12 watercolor paintings that align with each of the songs.

We wanted the project to tackle the story of God from Eden to eternity through word, art, and song. We are recently worked on a song-writing collaborative project with Cardiphonia, which is set to release later this month!

What brings you happiness?
One another and our family. We love spending time together!

Peter loves a good conversation, and Grace enjoys spending time reading. We also have a deep love for coffee and would work at a coffee shop together every day if we could!
