Rising Stars: Meet Lauren Baer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Baer.

Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in KC. I went to high school at Blue Valley West. I graduated and ended up at JCCC to ultimately take care of my grandparents that were very ill at the time. I also had a really hard time deciding what I really wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to help people in some sort of way.

My mom had actually suggested I go into esthetics a few years ago but I was 100% in the “My mom doesn’t know what she’s talking about stage.” I applied to the JCCC Esthetics program in the spring of 2020(right when COVID started), Got accepted, then got the email that they were going to shift us to online for the first semester.

I was honestly so worried because everything was so unknown then. We ended up going in person the second semester and graduating! I also just recently got certified in oncology. This will allow me to work with people that have gone through or are going through treatments for cancer.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road. I lost both of my grandparents whom I was extremely close to when I was in college. It took me forever to decide on a career path and of course COVID.

The second I got accepted into the esthetics program and I was really worried I would have to wait another year to get to do what I loved. My family also got the news that my mom had breast cancer around the same time I got accepted into the program. Let me tell you, that is not an easy thing to watch your mom go through.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Aesthetician. I work on skin basically. My goal is to make people feel beautiful, confident, and comfortable in their own skin. I just recently got my certification in oncology in esthetics. I am really proud of it.

I’d like to think that my knowledge about working with people that have been through or going through cancer treatments (chemo, radiation, surgery, etc.) sets me apart. Everyone deserves to be pampered and reminded that they are still cared for.

I watched my mom go through the hardest times and every time I offered to do her facial at home for school her face would light up. It is the little things that get people through the hardest days. I also LOVE seeing the results in their skin. It is so satisfying and makes me smile when they begin to feel confident again.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Passion for skincare. This business is NOT easy to thrive in. you have to work at it and make a name for yourself.
