Today we’d like to introduce you to Keasha True.
Hi Keasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How I started: Honestly I feel like my planning journey started like a lot of planners! I planned my own wedding five years ago and just couldn’t really let it go. I got the itch and everyone kept saying, “wow you should really do this like for real”. So well, I decided to do it for real and here we are.
How I got to where I am today: This journey has been the craziest ride and within the last couple of years, I have really found my niche. My IDEAL CLIENTS that I love to work with and they keep me going. When I decided to invest in myself and embrace the Kansas City community is when I fell in love all over again with weddings. I constantly feel challenged and inspired but in the BEST WAYS. Everyone is so supportive and vendor relationships are just as important as client ones. I cannot stress this enough either after having our son, I was trying to “do it all”, well guess what I couldn’t. So I decided to outsource, hire a team, and lean on my family when I needed it. I created balance between my dream job and my dream life. Now I’m just living it to the fullest and taking on any new adventures I can.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
– Burn out is REAL and for people that tell you it isn’t then they just haven’t hit their tipping point yet! Outsource when you can and do it especially for the things you DREAD doing.
– I struggle with being a mom and owning my own business. Both are my babies and I want to give equal amounts to both!
– Setting boundaries was hard for me and is something I still struggle with!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Wedding + Elopement Planner
I am most proud of how authentic I am throughout the entire process from booking to the client’s wedding day. I’m a mom, wife, and real person and most of the time, I’m rocking a messy bun, birks, and no makeup!
Around the KC wedding community, I am known for being loud and making some pretty bomb mood boards for my clients and styled shoots.
I think what sets me apart from others is my eye for design and color. I love to find new inspo anywhere and love to push the limits. Especially in the Midwest, we typically tend to be behind the new and upcoming trends. Well, I’m here to tell you we can bring the desert or the jungle to KC if need be!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I think taking risks are what leads to the greatest discoveries or partnerships. Especially in a small business setting, you need to constantly evolve and focus on what’s new.
Now taking calculated risks are always good as well! I’m not saying you should jump on every opportunity but if you constantly think about what is stopping you?
I have taken so many risks that seemed huge at the time but seem so minor now. The first is hiring my team and trusting them to execute on my behalf. This company is my baby and I tend to have a hard time letting go. However, it has been the best risk for me not only on a business level but from a personal one as well!
