Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth West.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As far back as I can remember I loved anything and everything that had a camera. My dad, grandma, and aunt all had a love for photography and that passed down to me. I had my point-and-shoot camera with me at all times ready to capture anything and everything. While I was in high school a few classmates trusted in me to take their senior photos and that’s where I fell in love with portrait photography. Those same classmates then asked me to take their wedding photos and that’s where I have found my passion in wedding photography. Six years later and many wedding cakes here I am, in awe of the stories I am able to witness and capture weekend after weekend.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One struggle I have faced was moving to a new state and building up my name again. In 2019 my husband and I moved to KC from Indiana and leaving family, friends, and loyal clients were rough. Almost instantly I reached out to other creatives in KC. I wanted to know the market and the city as much as I can. I didn’t allow myself to wait for opportunities to come I went out and sought them. Since moving to KC I had the privilege of meeting and capturing incredible clients who have become friends. The Lord has shaped my road with the deepest bumps and smoothest path. Without Him, I would not be the person or photographer I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a photographer and I Specialize in weddings. I am most proud that I am all self-taught. Since high school, I knew this is what I was called to do. I have poured countless hours, tears, and many cups of coffee to perfect my craft. I believe what sets me apart from others is my care for my clients. I take the time to listen to my couples’ stories and the path that led them to find each other. It’s incredibly beautiful the way God planned for us to meet our significant other. My job as a photographer is to listen and then recreate those emotions from their story into the photographs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m a firm believer in you’ll receive what you put in. If you put in the time, work, and have faith you’ll reap those rewards. You can’t just rely on “luck” to make it to the next level in your business.
