Rising Stars: Meet Dylan Ashlock and Peyton Shellenberger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dylan Ashlock and Peyton Shellenberger.

Hi Dylan, Peyton, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
What started as a way to be with friends, quickly turned into a passion for a lot of us. Many of the people you see working with OnPoint have been friends for more than a decade and BMX has only brought us closer. We started making YouTube videos to have fun and share the fun of BMX with others. It has always been about inspiring each other to be better and hopefully inspire others to keep biking. Over the years, we started getting greeted by kids at skateparks we had never been to, in states we had never been to, even all the way in Aruba people were recognizing the signature “OP” stickers. That inspired us. Our main goal has always been to grow the local BMX community here in Kansas City, as athletes and friends, and so it is nice to know we can have an impact on other budding communities. We consider everyone who rides with us part of the OnPoint family and have been a leading role in many local events, even recently throwing a Jam on GoBMX day this year, where people from all over Kansas and surrounding states came to have a cookout and ride bikes together. We want to grow as a team, but we want to make friends and positively impact as many people as possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some original members got injured or fell out of it due to other hobby interests. To this day, we are all still very close and support each other. Another struggle would be not having enough time together to ride and film. College, full-time jobs, or beginning new relationships; people grow and move on. Which only brings the people who are involved to this day closer and the time spent together is more cherishable.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a platform; we are a brand, a YouTube channel, a daily social media presence, for a community to include BMX riders and anyone who feels they can represent OnPoint to a new audience. (A place for artists to grow) We are most proud of the past couple of videos that have been shared/posted on professional, well-known, BMX websites; but also very proud of how popular the ‘OP’ logo is around us and how many people recognize it.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
What has worked well for us is being inclusive, respectful, and open for anyone who is creative.
