Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomson and Yhoshua Ticum.
Hi Thomson and Yhoshua, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
It started as a hobby! I (Thomson) started to see the work that another Latino storyteller was doing and it inspired me to learn how to share other people’s stories through video. We really wanted to give Latino people high-quality footage and be able to work with people in their own language. We also really wanted to connect in a creative way with the Latinx community. After about a couple of years, my brother, Yhoshua, started to get more interested in videography and we decided to start working together!
When COVID hit back in March of 2020, I (Yhoshua) began to get interested in videography. I watched a lot of videos of other creators and I thought it was so cool how people were able to tell stories through video. I then reached out to my brother, Thomson, and we decided to join forces and start working together! It was such a cool way to connect as brothers and do something creative.
We recently added two people to the Ticum Media team, David Aguilar and Cristian Reyes! We’re excited about the direction that we’re headed as a team and are looking forward to telling more stories and capturing memories.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road, as with many others. In the beginning, it’s hard to balance work and family life. When you have other jobs and a family, it’s difficult to do all the work needed for the new startup. We are also trying to begin and create a brand, which is really hard at first. Another difficult challenge has been getting our name out to people and showing our work on a wider scale.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in event and promotional videography and photography sessions like weddings, quinceañeras, and promotional/commercial videos. We are most proud of the team that we’ve put together and the product that we produce. We are also proud of our client relationships and how we treat the people we work with and that’s what really sets us apart.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Fulltime Filmmaker is one of the resources we use frequently! I (Yhoshua) listen to the Rhythms for Life podcast. The Learn Videography podcast by Industry Jump has been really helpful. The YouTube app is also a popular one at Ticum Media.
