Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Pierce.
Hi Miranda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi there,
My names Miranda Pierce and I own The Book Nook in Kearney MO.
I’m a mother of 5 beautiful children, Brooklynn, Makenna, Willow, Maverick and Tatum Jo.
After I had my son Maverick I needed some “mommy time” so I picked up reading.
I had thrown the idea around to my husband Nicholas Pierce about starting a mobile bookstore, we were in the process of purchasing a trailer, but I ran into the problem of crafting fairs being “your items you sell you have to make” which my books weren’t crafted.
I was passing my current spot and seen a “For Rent” sign and my husband and I came to look at the space the same night and I signed the contract.
I opened my bookstore in May and have loved it every single day. Its been so helpful with having 5 children and I love being able to have my own schedule and still spending so much time with my family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely NOT!
Owning a small business is HARD, but owning a bookstore is even harder. Not everyone likes reading but I would love for everyone to know we are more than a bookstore and we have TONS more things to offer than books.
Not a lot of people know that Kearney MO has a bookstore, no matter how many times I post on social media, people come in the door and they say “I didn’t even know that Kearney had a bookstore.”
Supporting a bookstore is more than just making a “purchase” other ways to support a small business is commenting on their post, sharing their post, and just telling others about the small business.
If you don’t like reading you always know someone who loves to read be like “Hey, did you hear theres a bookstore in kearney” spread the word.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Bookstore- The Book Nook
Im proud that I have put my name out there and opened a bookstore in general. Opening your own space is hard but opening a small business is even harder.
Not only do I get to have books I love in my store I also support small indie authors.
There are tons of indie authors that write books and go to other bookstores and they dont allow them to place their books in their store. Thats NOT ME!
You wrote your own book? Don’t have a store to place them? Bring them to The Book Nook because we LOVE indie authors and we want them to have a HOME here with us!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
So growing up I was the only child til I turned 13 and my parents told me that I was going to be a big sister.
At first I wasn’t excited about it. but once my sister came along I LOVED it.
I remember my sister went through this stage of only wanting me to put her to sleep, so I would have to do this CRAZY rocking her. It was like that for months. I was so blessed to have gotten to help my parents out and also got to cuddle with my sister.
At one point in time my sister about 3 years old got into my makeup and when I asked her if she got into “sissy makeup” she said “no” when I asked her what was on her face she said “makeup” it was so stinking cute and funny. I even got to record her so we still have the video.
