Meet Kiera Henderson of Owner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiera Henderson.

Hi Kiera, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always loved fashion years ago. I would volunteer at KCFW, and a woman named Kim young puts together fashion shows in the Kansas City area. In my spare time, o would put together random photo shoots and style my peers because I wanted to be a wardrobe stylist. But between working and taking care of my son it just didn’t seem realistic for someone like m. I took on a job working as a jackpot payout girl at the casino but during the coronavirus pandemic when everyone could not go out and shop in stores. I started just purchasing merchandise online and reselling merchandise for profit on a Facebook called kc boss babes. Then I thought about how much I loved fashion in the past and how much I loved making other women feel good about themselves. So I should invest in a website and focus on one form of purchase I love for my brand. So I decided on lingerie and sleepwear because I felt that’s when women should feel best about themselves by loving their bodies while at home. After all, if you can’t feel good about yourself In your own home, how can you go out into the world and feel good about yourself? So once I invested in my website, I started working with various models around the city, putting together photoshoots for my merchandise. I put together flyers and constantly promote my website online to get my website noticed. Body illusions are about being any age or size and not being shackled to society’s expectations of what beauty is by loving yourself in your comfort zone no matter what. Right now, I’m focusing on different techniques to promote my brand, like pop-up shops and attending events for women in business. I want my website to thrive positively so it can grow into a household name all women are familiar with.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled with trying to keep people aware of what my brand was about. When people think of the name body illusions, they sometimes think it can be geared towards wanting your body to look like something it is not when It’s strictly about loving your body as it is and being comfortable with who you are. Sometimes people can get confused about the meaning of what the brand is about. Some people might not see you as you see yourself, but you have to love yourself regardless.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Right now, I’m strictly focused on my website and building the brand. I think it takes courage to start any business, but networking with other people like models and photographers to get them to believe in what you’re trying to do when it comes to your brand takes guts. I’m proud of my consistency in wanting to make other women feel good about themselves. What sets me apart from others is that I am dedicated to moving forward with my brand no matter the hurdles I might encounter. I will continue to sell merchandise and promote women feeling their best and being comfortable with their bodies.

What was you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always outspoken and outgoing. I always loved fashion and wearing different hair colors, being the center of attention even if it was in situations that weren’t always positive. I loved others being attentive to me. I loved reading different magazines because my mom owned a hair salon, so I would sit in her salon every day after school, watch her run her business, and read various magazines.
