Today we’d like to introduce you to Jorge And Izak Carlos.
Jorge and Izak , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We are two brothers who graduated from Olathe Northwest Highschool. We are currently 23 and 25 years old. We both have been boxing for 14 years Jorge, the oldest brother has been boxing since he was 11 years old. He played many sports, including being on the RBI all star baseball league but decided boxing was the sport for him. Since day one, coaches said he would go far in boxing but always compared his boxing style to a “pro style”, he would hit without getting hit back. Jorge won Kansas State and Regional tournaments about 5 times and has also won gold at several National USA Boxing tournaments. He then even competed internationally. Jorge also won regional golden gloves 3 times.
Izak, the younger of the two brothers, started boxing when he was 9. Izak, on the other hand would take long extended breaks from boxing throughout his early teen years, winning multiple state and regional tournaments and winning two spots to compete at the 2024 Olympic trials, in two different weight classes, which is unheard of.
Jorge now owns his own painting business in Kansas City and trains in between his work schedule.
Izak is currently going to JCCC, in the Radiology program.
Since going pro, Ryan Richey, a well known boxing manager has had his eyes on these two brothers. He signed Jorge in 2024 and Izak this past year. Jorge is now 11-0 with 10 knockouts and Izak is now 6-0 with 4 knockouts. Izak has brought boxing back to the Kansas City area, with the help of Blue Corner Promotions (a promotion company who primarily has done MMA and other martial arts). Izak has headlined 5 sold out Blue Corner shows at the Voodoo Lounge.
These young prospects also make time to give back to the community, twice a year they go to Washington Elementary to give a seminar on healthy lifestyle choices, eating clean, and the importance of exercise. You will even catch them outside with the kids playing soccer or kickball after each seminar.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Boxing is a tough sport. Not just physically but mentally. There have been many set backs during the years, opponents backing out last minute after a long, hard camp, or shows getting moved. But being resilient is a keep component to boxing and learning to push forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of Kc Boxing Academy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
KC Boxing Academy has been in business for only 1 year but is the home of the Carlos brothers. Alex Lugo, head coach, has developed a system to help kids stay out of trouble, teach them confidence, mental toughness, resilience, it is an anti bullying zone, and so much more!
KC Boxing Academy thrives on a family atmosphere and works with each athlete to determine what path is right for them, whether that be competing or sticky exercising and learning the fundamentals of boxing.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Brothers said that one of their favorite memories was all the traveling they have had the opportunity to have while going to tournaments. And one in particular was a tournament in Mexican Arizona, called Gene Lewis where they went against top fights from all over the country and even some from Canada participated. Both brothers walked away with the gold in their weight/ age divisions.
