Hi Jes, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I’ve dabbled in all mediums because it all fascinates me, but painting is my favorite. I especially love painting murals. I started painting murals for friends’ homes and churches and then jumped into my hometown’s downtown rehabilitation project. I’ve painting six public murals in Texas. In Kansas City, my bread and butter has been painting family-owned restaurants. Those are honestly, my favorite. I have found my favorite places to eat on KC from getting hired on murals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My own self-doubt tends to be my biggest, most constant obstacle. I often repeat a silly phrase my dad says to myself. “Today. I am going to use my will to overcome my won’t.” And that’s usually the kick in the pants my confidence needs to get going again. Inspiration usually finds me working. So I just try to keep working, even on the days, I’m not overflowing with ideas.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Right now, I am most known for my murals. A lot of clients find me on the Thumbtack app or through Instagram. This is going to sound off topic but I promise it’s relevant. I was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult when I was 29. One trait of ADHD is hyperfocus/hyper fixation. So although I’m riddled with self-doubt up to that first brushstroke, once I get going, I will not stop until it’s done. It’s become a muralist superpower of sorts because I can finish large murals in a matter of days when similar work takes teams, weeks to do. That’s definitely something that sets me apart and my clients find valuable. I will get it done very quickly and it will still be beautiful. I’m pretty proud of that.

The easiest way to support me is to follow me on Instagram and TikTok (@jeswartist) and share my work! Like and comment and repost! When I have traffic on those platforms, I start booking gigs. But even when I’m not booking gigs, I love interacting with the community. It makes my heart soar when I can see that people are blessed by my work.
