Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Kilgore.
Hi Jason, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t start out with some big master plan — I started by working hard, learning fast, and figuring things out the long way.
I’ve always been wired to build. Early on, that meant getting my hands dirty, learning trades, understanding how jobs really work from the ground up. Over time, I realized I wasn’t just interested in doing the work — I wanted to understand the systems behind it: how businesses run, how people operate, and how to create something that lasts.
That led me to Professional Construction Services (PCS), where today I focus on the big picture — strategy, operations, and making sure the company runs clean and dependable for both our crews and our customers. We’ve built PCS on accountability, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way, even when it’s harder.
Outside of construction, I’m also a professional hunting guide, which might seem unrelated, but it’s actually shaped me just as much. Guiding taught me discipline, patience, leadership, and respect for preparation — lessons that carry straight into business and life.
Where I’m at today is the result of stacking small wins over time. No shortcuts, no hype. Just consistent effort, learning from mistakes, and building systems that create freedom instead of chaos. I’m still building — but now I’m doing it with intention.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Early on, a lot of lessons came the hard way — mistakes, setbacks, and learning to take full responsibility when things didn’t go right. Building something real means you feel every decision, good or bad.
One of the biggest challenges was learning to stop doing everything myself and start building systems and trusting others. That shift was uncomfortable but necessary to grow without burning out.
Staying disciplined and focused through busy, demanding seasons has also been a challenge, but those pressures forced me to get clearer, more structured, and more intentional. In the end, the obstacles became the training.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Professional Construction Services (PCS) is a Kansas City–based construction and roofing company built on accountability, craftsmanship, and doing things the right way.
We specialize in residential and insurance restoration roofing, with a strong focus on clean installs, clear communication, and dependable systems from start to finish. What sets PCS apart is how we operate — we don’t chase volume or shortcuts. Every job is scoped properly, expectations are set upfront, and our crews are held to a high standard.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built. PCS is structured, disciplined, and professional, but still grounded in blue-collar work ethic. Our goal is simple: deliver quality work, protect the homeowner, and leave every project better than we found it.
I want readers to know that PCS isn’t about hype or flash. It’s about consistency, trust, and building something that lasts — for our customers, our crews, and our community.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I don’t look at myself as a big risk-taker — I look at myself as someone willing to take responsibility.
Most of the real risks I’ve taken came from betting on myself when it would’ve been easier to play it safe. Choosing long-term work over short-term comfort, and building something from the ground up with no guarantees. That kind of risk gets real when your name and reputation are attached to it.
I don’t take blind chances. I prepare, I think through the downside, and I put structure around every decision so one bad move doesn’t take everything down. If I can’t live with the worst-case scenario, I don’t make the move.
To me, smart risk is how progress happens. When it’s backed by discipline and consistency, risk stops being reckless and starts working for you.
