Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Brown.
Hi Jada, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’ve been baking since I was 16, but not seriously though. It started by being only when we didn’t have anything sweet to eat in the house, I always made cookies, and we always had ingredients to make cookies. Back then, I would make the recipes on the back of the baking soda box, Tollhouse Chocolate chips, or some Pinterest recipes. In 2018, I decided that I wanted to try and make my recipe. I began to break down the different components of a cookie and how they impacted the baking and structure. With that knowledge, I finally found a recipe that worked for me, and I have been using it since. At this time, this was just a hobby for me, and I wasn’t thinking about turning it into a business or anything. Around 2020 is when I got serious about my baking. Amid a pandemic, I started thinking about what I wanted to do with my life, my legacy, and what mark I would leave, and this was the start I wanted to have. This business is a stepping stone for me as I plan to grow and elevate my craft and knowledge as a business owner and entrepreneur. This is my start small. I have taken a passion and love of mine to take a leap of faith to prove to myself that my goals are obtainable. While doing so, I get to provide people with a very yummy, delicious treat that I have worked extremely hard to make just right.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The things that have been struggles have not been struggles at all. Baking is a trial-and-error craft. Sometimes the recipe doesn’t work how you thought it would, and you must rework it repeatedly. But that’s also why I love it. The hardest part for me has been marketing, a lot of marketing now of days is done through social media, and I barely post on my personal social media, so trying to do it for my business is very challenging. Another challenging thing has been inflation! The price of things has gone so crazy that it’s been hard to stay stocked with certain things, such as eggs.
We’ve been impressed with Cookies To Crumbs, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Black Woman-owned and operated, providing unique, fresh, delicious cookies that go from Cookies to Crumbs in seconds. We sell classic flavors like your chocolate chip and peanut butter and have flavors such as strawberry cheesecake, orange creamsicle, and much more. Popular desserts and flavors inspire them. All in all the cookies really speak for themselves.
We’d like to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Luckily has not played a role, either good or bad. This has mostly been hard work and dedication. I’ve been working, reworking, taking classes, researching, and putting money into my business on my own. That’s not to say that my luck won’t change either way. One lucky thing, though, has been getting this interview, I’m not sure how, but I am very grateful for this opportunity and the hope it brings me and my business.
