Meet Emily Bordner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Bordner.

Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started back in 2012 when I was on the hunt to find the perfect handbag: something modern and simple, affordable yet high quality. My search came up unsuccessful. So, as most great start-up stories go, I set out to make my own. It didn’t take long before my bags caught the attention of friends and family, and after a few successful pop-up shops, a business was born.

Since first breaking into the fashion scene with a line of handmade leather bags, I have expanded EB and Co. to include jewelry, art prints, and hair accessories. Today, my pieces can be found in numerous boutiques across Kansas City, Colorado, and Texas. At the helm of my namesake label as creative director, I continue EB and Co.’s mission to offer easy, elevated accessories that spark confidence and inspire individuality.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely has had its challenges and bumps along the road. Putting too much value in what others think about you is one of the biggest lessons I had to learn in the beginning. I really struggled with that, but now try to only listen to my gut and 3-5 trusted voices around me. Taxes are always intimidating; I mistakingly wasn’t paying sales taxes for a whole quarter and learned the hard way when I got the tax bill.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
EB and Co. is an accessories brand based in Kansas City, Missouri. We specialize in women’s accessories, including earrings, necklaces, scarfs, hair accessories, etc. Unlike most boutiques, we own the accessories niche; it’s all we do. We are most proud of our jewelry selection. Most known for our earrings, but necklaces have gotten super popular this past year. Our pieces are affordable and fashionable. Seasonally updating any outfit. Our products are perfect for gifting too since everything is sizeless and has an approachable price point.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
My mother jokes that one of my favorites toys as a kid was a cash register, which I think is hilarious. I have always loved fashion and wanted to be a fashion designer when I grew up. Coming from a family of multi-generational entrepreneurs the intersection of business and fashion was a natural place for me to find my home.

  • Most pieces are below $25
