Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Jodts.
Hi Danielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It’s no wonder I loved Rainbow Brite and Punky Brewster as a child – color has always been the key part of my wardrobe, ever-changing home aesthetic, and how many would describe my personality. Today, as a certified architectural color consultant, I help homeowners and small storefronts choose best-possible paint color palettes that enhances the space and the ambiance desired. Raised by a talented decorator, it’s second nature to visualize transformation, quickly identify what’s needed, and bring it all together. I started ‘Color it Current’ to reduce the overwhelm of choosing a paint color for so many locals, who consistently struggled, doubted, and regretted their choices both inside and out.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
What is a color consultant? That alone is the most noteworthy answer needing to gain momentum to keep growing this business. How do I help my clients? Am I an interior designer? Do I work for a paint company?
I help my clients by meeting them in person to test paint colors using my knowledge of sneaky undertones paired with large color boards that allow accurate reads on each color; especially given the lighting in their space. I am not a full-service interior designer, yet I partner with locals designers on projects needing a trained eye to select paint. While I represent mostly Sherwin Williams, I am a local, women-owned, small business with vivid entrepreneurial goals!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
First, let’s talk interiors…. No homeowner needs to take on the overwhelm of scanning thousands of paint chips, imagining how they coordinate room-to-room, from the chaos and unrealistic lighting of a paint store. Instead, Color it Current brings curated, large-scale samples so you can experience how color will transform in your specific space.
We will spend up to 90 minutes together to create a custom paint palette you feel both confident and excited about. Every homeowner has unique needs may it be a flow for an open floor plan, updating a 2000’s Tuscan scheme, painting a dim-lit finished basement, or adding an accent color to an island or built-in shelving so the piece pops in an otherwise neutral space.
When it comes to exteriors, most locals fear being the unsightly house on the block. You’ve seen ‘that’ house before. What pressure! Painting the outside of your home is likely the most public and expensive decision you will make. Color it Current will save you multiple trips to the paint store and time painting samples while “The Jones” share unsolicited opinions. In about an hour, we will walk your property, establishing what colors coordinate with your immediate neighbors, roof, stone, or brick. Staying true to the architectural style of your home, a color palette will be chosen for trim, main field color, and accents such as garages, front doors, decks, etc.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’m where I am today because of my mom’s creative talents, my dad’s can-do business acumen, and my mentor, Diane O’Bryne. Of equal impact are the genuinely supportive pockets of local women who encourage me towards my element and help muster up resiliency day after day. #freehugs.
