Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Allen.
Hi Dana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was always told to get a college education growing up. When I got out of high school, I ended up taking online classes, so I could work along with school. Each semester, I struggled with my grades, my financial aid funding, my internet staying on. There was always a setback. Then, I started a job at a med spa after working as a nurse aid for a few years and just wanting some change in life. That’s when things started to take a turn.
They had many different services there but what really got me interested was laser tattoo removal. The science behind it was so intriguing to me and I already had a passion for tattoos. So I acted like a sponge and learned as much as I could! I started to look into training classes for it and the closest one was in Texas so I dropped out of my college classes and started saving up for it. Then after I was so close to having the funds to go Covid happened. The spa closed down, all the classes were canceled, and I ended up having to spend my savings. A year went by and I almost gave up. Then my boss from the med spa emailed me and said that he’s starting a training program of his own! I was able to attend his class and start working there as an intern temporarily.
Since he didn’t need the extra help at the time I was let go after my training was completed. Again I felt like I was lost in life and I didn’t know what to do. I dropped out of school for this and I didn’t even have a plan. I was just winging it. So I started emailing others in the tattoo removal business in to hope to start a partnership with someone. I only got one reply back, someone had a laser and was willing to let me join not as an employee getting paid hourly but on commission as long as I bought in my own clients.
That was a game-changer. That’s when I started Divine Laser Removal, in a week I built my website and started marketing my butt off. Now it’s all paying off. All my friends thought I was insane for dropping out for tattoo removal, but I made it happen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Covid held me back like everyone else this year, I am very grateful for how it all went through. The training I got with the company I already worked at before was much more support than what I would have had at the training class in TX. I also met two awesome women while attending the class here.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a certified laser technician that specializes in tattoo removal.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t give up and don’t always listen to everyone else.
