Today we’d like to introduce you to Nieshia Mason.
Hi Nieshia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I first started doing my crafting, it was just something to do. I had just moved into a house and I wanted to decorate my daughter’s room with letters; pricing was so high I told myself I’m sure I can do it myself. I went to the store and got all the supplies and made the letters. My Aunt saw them and told me I should start a business and told her I didn’t think it would be any good!! She believed in me so much she was my first customer; I had no clue what to charge but I did the letters and she loved them!!
I started posting them on Facebook and started getting orders. Orders started slowing down because letters were not a lot of people’s favorite so I had to think of other things to do to. It’s been a little over three years now and I have expanded from letters only to t-shirts, mirrors, TV trays, small tray sets, keychains; I am currently working to add tumblers and canvas paints to my list of things. I have been sitting on a God-given talent and had no clue. I am so thankful for my aunt pushing me to do the letters.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road; there are times I get no orders, sometimes I run out of supplies and the money is not there to purchase more items. Sometimes when making orders, I mess up over and over before I get it right and that’s so frustrating!!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make custom items; I specialize in TV trays, wooden letters, and t-shirts. I am proud of my dedication to this journey because being a single mom it’s not easy at all. I am also proud of the finishing touches on all items; sometimes I start working and just zone out and when I am done, I am amazed at what I came up with; what sets me apart from others is I put my heart and soul into every order, I make sure each order is specially made for each person.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I like that my city supports my business… what I like the least is that they are always taking lives, yes crime is everywhere but I wish people would learn to come together and love on eachother instead of killing each other.
