Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Robison.
Hi Denise, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started in real estate in 2013 after a 15 years career teaching elementary school in the St. Louis area and ending in the Turner School District (KCK). I needed a viable way to support my family, and I hoped real estate could do that for me! I joined ReeceNichols because one of my neighbors at the time, Carol Collyard, was an agent. She encouraged me, and I joined her team at the West office in November of 2013. Carole made a tremendous influence on my career and I will forever be grateful to her and all the great agents at ReeceNichols for the impact they made on my real estate career!
Slow and steady wins the race and that has definitely been my story. I closed six transactions my first year and felt like a fish out of water. Because I was always used to running a classroom, marketing and “sales” seemed odd to me. There are many teaching qualities that have for sure transferred over to real estate but meeting new people and networking was out of my comfort zone. However, I doubled my commission in 2015 and 2016 and have consistently earned many times my teacher salary as a realtor. I am a full-time (24/7) real estate, but it’s not all about the payday for me! I truly enjoy helping people! Moving stinks! I hope having me in your corner to encourage, advise, and some days be a therapist makes the buying/selling process a bit less stressful. One of my clients calls me the “Real Estate Doula” I’m the support you need during a trying time! I will hold your hand and work behind the scenes to make you a lifelong client!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
LOL! Smooth? Life is never smooth!! Every transaction is different and riddled w/ challenges. I learn something with each deal. I switched brokerages in 2018 b/c I felt Keller Williams afforded me more opportunities to grow as an agent. I also went through a trying divorce in 2018 after a 25 years of marriage – that wasn’t easy, but I say real estate gave me the ability to free myself from a very difficult relationship.
In terms of the business itself, figuring out your marketing groove can be a challenge. There are so many new shiny toys to try as a realtor and some people make a business out of marketing to realtors! Building my database and finding that groove to stay in contact with people by not being a pest (lol) is the challenge. I truly care about people, and I never want to be “salesy”. When I ask how you are, I truly want to know how I can make your day a bit better! Now, I want to help you or someone you know buy, sell or invest in real esate, too! At the heart of it all, I love people! Many of my clients have become friends and very much like family to me!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a realtor w/ Keller Williams Key Partners and team lead of the List Show Sell KC Group. We help people w/ many times life’s biggest investment – their home! Finding the just right home for your family at a price you can afford or selling what you and your family have made memoires in and poured time and money into and getting you top market dollar for that property…. That’s what we want for our people! You are more than a transaction to us! My business partner, Alison Paddock using the KW 36 touch concept have developed a marketing plan that we remain in contact w/ our client (past, present and future) on a continuous basis. Through our LSSKC FAN CLUB, client events, pop bys and check ins, we have become part of our people’s world. LSSKC is proud to sponsor the Kansas City Mavericks for a second season! Just another way we give back to our clients w/ tickets to our local hockey team in the Ice Lounge!!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The real estate market has been primarily a seller’s market for the last several years. In 2021, we’ve seen the market highly favor sellers. With that said, I have still been successful in getting my buyer clients under contract at a market right price.
The market has seen a small shift b/c inventory has picked up slightly. It still remains to be at the seller’s advantage, however, it is important to have a great realtor, like me, in your corner to advise you on the market. Houses overpriced will sit on the market deterring buyers and that’s not good for anyone. So always seek out a professional to advise you!
As long as interest rates remain low, the market will stay strong. The “super hot” time seems to have passed but sellers are still getting top dollar $$ if the home is priced right for the condition and location.
Some want to make our industry less personable and remove the agent entirely, but I think the bottom line, clients need us in their corner. I want to always be present for my peeps and I feel I’ve built a lot of trust w/ my buyers/sellers and they want and need my expertise and caring spirit. So even as some large entities push the agent to the side, I will work to build a personal experience so my clients don’t feel used or dissatisfied at the end of the transaction. I can tell you over the next 5-10 years, I intent to still be working on a referral basis helping people buy, sell or invest in real estate with a smile on my face! Make a move in the right direction, Dial Denise!
