Life & Work with Carmen Seda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carmen Seda.

Hi Carmen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I remember always being captivated by a camera. My mom had a camera growing up, and I would always do themed photoshoots with friends or take photos of my animals. I started taking photography more seriously within the last six years, but I’ve done photography as a hobby for the last 15 years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road! I think the hardest was making the transition from a hobby to a career and really finding your style. Shortly after, I had moved to Los Angeles alone. Finding a business in a new unfamiliar city was difficult as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer and digital creator! I have a passion for books and travel, so eight and a half years ago, I created a social media account combining the two. Over the years, I’ve worked with publishing companies like Penguin Random House, Bloomsbury, Harper Collins, and others who would send me books to photograph and share on my Instagram account.

Outside of traveling and books, I love creative portrait photography – playing with different lighting and experimenting with fun colors is so much fun!

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I would have to say, my mom. Growing up, my sister, friends, and I would always have themed photoshoots, and my mom would be the one to take them. Those were some of the best memories I have as a kid. Looking back at photos from that time always makes me so happy.

I’d also like to thank one of my best friends, JoAnna for showing me my favorite book trilogy, which inspired me to start my book account all those years ago! (The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare).
