Life & Work with Brandi Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Brooks.

Hi Brandi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
In 2016, I started an internship with Mic Check Global, a marketing company in St. Louis as a brand assistant. From there, I was able to pick up photography as a way to help during photo shoots and ad campaigns for clients. That position allowed me to transition into working for a couple of local photography companies in the St. Louis area.

In 2018, I moved to Kansas City to work with Victorious Life Church as a marketing specialist. That position gave me the skills and experience needed to start my own companies PT Supreme & Customs, a digital marketing company, and Hood Therapy STL, a mental health company that brings awareness to urban communities through talk therapy and apparel.

Throughout that time I also wrote and published a book called Mane Garden Vol. 1.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. In the creative field, it is easy to find yourself on the end of low-paying and exhaustive jobs just to make ends meet. I have had my fair share of those.

However, I am grateful for those experiences because they have shown me that I am resilient and hardworking. Without those experiences, I am not sure if I would be the person that I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I like to consider myself a multi-media creator. I dab in pretty much everything. A Jane of all Trades in a way. I do a bit of content writing, social media marketing, consulting, graphic design, videography, and my absolute favorite- photography.

I am most known in Kansas City for my photography. I am proud of myself because I started with a simple idea of art with no real skills or money. Now, I am immersed in it and I have begun to teach the next generation of creatives.

I love event photography, which most don’t because it requires a lot of equipment and you have to stay active. Event photography is my favorite because I love to tell a story through the photos and moments that I capture.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is my sixth birthday party. It was in the backyard of our family home. A lot of people came to wish me a happy birthday. I had a great time and was able to be a kid: Playing games, eating cake, and spending time with my friends and family.
