Hidden Gems: Meet Ryan Brokke of Hence Analytics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Brokke.

Hi Ryan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
If there was a movie made out of Hence Analytics’ story it would certainly start out with a montage of me writing up business plans or drawing up the framework on white boards only for the idea to get crumpled up and thrown into a waste basket. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and known that building businesses is what I’m meant to do, but before Hence there were always factors that got in that way of that mindset. In the past there were opportunities for self-growth, financial constraints, and frankly some “just okay” business concepts. From the start, Hence has been different.

While working for a large corporation, I became interested in sharpening my skills around Data Analytics as that company was beginning to heavily invest in it and I had found it fascinating in my previous studies. I started with a simple certification course and immediately became engrossed in the concepts. Before I knew it, I was completing programs at Harvard and Cornell and seeing the world differently. While in the middle of the Harvard program, there was a day where (not just a light bulb, but) a flashing neon sign turned on for me. I realized that every example that we were studying across every course I had taken was based around how a Fortune 500 company was unlocking new levels of success with Data Analytics. There wasn’t a single example or exercise around how a small business could use Data to succeed. After some research, I found that large corporations around the world were investing hundreds of billions of dollars a year in Data Analytics while the average small business didn’t have the time, money, or expertise to entertain the idea of how it could help them. It was clear that before long, small businesses wouldn’t just be at a disadvantage, in the future they wouldn’t stand a chance. That very day, I started working on the business plan for Hence Analytics.

That feels like such a long time ago with how far Hence has come. While there have been a lot of long days and hard work that’s gotten us to this point, the determination to remove the mystery around what Data can do for small businesses has really pushed us through. We’re also incredibly lucky that we are nerdy enough to actually have a lot of fun digging into Data and building solutions. On top of all that, though, we are so fortunate that we have the most supportive friends and family, without whom none of this would be possible.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m envious of any start up that has a smooth road! While our road certainly hasn’t been overly bumpy, we have been lucky that we’ve been able to turn most everything into a learning opportunity.

Since we strongly believe in the power of Analytics, we’ve obviously been tracking our metrics and indicators along the way. Every sub-par pitch, ho hum social media post, and less than stellar process is a gold mine of data that helps us get better every single day. We’ve come a long way since day one, but we can’t wait to see our growth in a month, a year, and beyond!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Hence Analytics, it is our duty (and privilege) to bring Wall Street’s best tools to Main Street. We take the mystery, time, and hefty price tag out of Data Analytics by creating affordable solutions that allow our customers to work smarter and unlock new potentials for success.

At this point, there really isn’t anyone doing what we’re doing. The Data Analytics world is heavily focused on making big businesses bigger and following the paycheck that accompanies that. At this rate, it won’t be long until small businesses can’t compete. We’re in business to give our friends, family, and neighbors a fighting chance.

From a branding perspective, we’re the most proud of our commitment to small business success. While we strive to keep our solutions affordable, we know that sometimes budgets can be tight beyond the day to day operations, so we created our Analytics for All program that we’ll be launching this September. We’ll be accepting applications from small businesses in the community that are interested in Data Analytics and will ultimately be providing a full suite of solutions to one small business and one non-profit business for free. This will be the first year that we are offering this, but we’re hoping that it will be successful enough to continue into the future. We will be posting information about the program on our Instagram toward the end of August and will begin accepting applications on September 1st. Thus – Not everything we offer is focused on explaining what has happened/ is currently happening. Thus is a tool that focuses on showing you what is expected to happen! If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
We believe that the most important characteristic for Hence Analytics’ success is passion. Passion for creating more free time for our clients drives us to make efficiency our middle name. Passion for helping our clients’ grow from learning opportunities drive us to become experts on their businesses. Passion for our clients’ wins drive us to go above and beyond expectations with everything we do.
