Hidden Gems: Meet Lashelle Austin of Acryliccolors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lashelle Austin.

Hi Lashelle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a little girl, I was always very creative. I loved being different and I always thought outside the box. I knew in my mind that one day I am going to find a way to express my creativeness. So I started to do everything, draw, paint, color every chance I got. With my work not really being noticed, I just thought well maybe this is something that I should not be doing. One lovely summer evening, I stumbled across a YouTube video of a lady drawing on her nails and I thought to myself, I have never seen that before. I didn’t have very many people getting their nails done around me so being exposed to that really opened my mind to what all I can do. Next thing I know, I was buying all kinds of nail polishes and paints for designs I would have in mind. I would put all types of colors and designs on my nails and I would even sometimes do my mom‘s nails. As years went by, my craft continued to grow and I started to get into acrylic nail extensions. And I loved it! I would have a different design every other week. Classmates would always ask me “Who did your nails?” and I always say, “I did.” and they would always be so surprised. Nails was always a hobby for me but then I was encouraged to start taking clients. Right after I graduated high school in 2017, I started accepting clients. I took my first client while staying with my parents. Thankfully they allowed me to do nails at home in an empty room until I moved out. With that experience, I am blessed to now be on my own working in a shop, doing what I love to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur, there will be struggles along the way. But keeping your faith and being headstrong will help you get through it. There were times where I thought I didn’t have enough clients. Women always had their own nail tech, and it would be hard for new nail techs to gain clientele. Also, the cost of nail supplies at the time worried me because clients will want so much on their nails that I thought I wouldn’t have enough money for what they wanted. As I evolved, I now know how to balance out gaining clientele and keeping up with nail supplies for my business. Being your own boss is a huge investment, and I do not regret any Investment that I made for my business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Acryliccolors?
My company helps individuals that want to be pampered. Helping clients gain confidence about how they feel and how they look. My company creates noticeable results that will have the next person asking about my services. I create these results by interacting with clients, what their likes and dislikes are from favorite colors to least favorite colors. This allows me to bond with my clients and to give them a design they would love. My company services all people of all age ranges. I service both male and female. I do what I can for my clients because I used to have a low confidence in myself and when I started doing my own nails, I felt better. With over two years of experience, I have personally experienced unsatisfied nails and would never want that for my clients. I strive to make sure I am giving best customer service that I can. What makes me proud is seeing my clients leave out the door with a big smile on their faces due to the services I provide.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve definitely had many mentors and supporters in this journey. Too many to count. Every client that has gotten their nails done by me is support. Every like every share on my Facebook or Instagram post is support. They all deserve credit. If my parents never allowed me to work from their home and help me pay for nail supplies, I’m not sure where I will be. I am very grateful for every opportunity that was given to me through each client. I’ve gained so many connections in so many bonds with my supporters that I am overwhelmed with joy. I appreciate every person that has entered into my life, they help me get one step closer to where I want to be.
