Hidden Gems: Meet Brooke Burris of Lite Brite Candle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Burris.

Hi Brooke, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started making candles in October 2019 while I was pregnant with my son. I LOVE candles so I thought why not make some. I made a few and packed them to work with me a few days later.

At the time I was working at a call center and word traveled fast about my candles. Next thing you know I have a notebook filled with orders. By December my hobby was on its way to becoming a business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Things definitely got rough during the pandemic. Orders were coming in but not like they were at first and the cost of materials had gone up significantly!

As you know, we’re big fans of Lite Brite Candle Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I have been in the candle-making business since October 2019. My main focus, in the beginning, was candles. Now I have candles, wax melts, carpet freshener, and room sprays. The fact that I am 100% authentic and true to myself and what I believe in sets me apart from others.

I am most proud of the growth of my brand. My products are 100% handmade and Vegan. I use high-quality scents with no toxins. My candles are made with a soy and vegetable wax blend. I offer wholesale and bulk orders as well as custom orders for special occasions.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Don’t be afraid to meet new people and don’t be afraid to invest in your business. I started doing popup shops in 2021 and I made a lot of connections that have helped my brand grow.
