Hidden Gems: Meet Anisah Nelson of Kai Galore Skin & Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisah Nelson.

Hi Anisah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hi! I’m Anisah Nelson. Founder/CEO of Kai Galore Skin & Aesthetics CO, LLC.

I am a Kansas City Native and a 21-year-old single mom. I started my company 1 year ago, on pure passion and hunger in pursuit to bring awareness to the importance of skincare aesthetics and self-care in connection to the struggles of PTSD, depression, and anxiety. Coming from an emotionally and physically abusive relationship; I was completely different, I’d come out with the worst acne I’ve ever had , broke, a single mother, suffering from postpartum depression, PTSD, anxiety, grieving major losses including my younger sister and even attempting suicide. I’d felt completely overwhelmed and needed a hobby to escape, at the time, my mental and emotional state & basically overcome my pain.

So when COVID-19 came about, I put my pain behind me & I enrolled into Mitsu Sato Academy’s night school program to become a certified esthetician. I began mapping a blueprint to gaining entrepreneurial knowledge, building my business plan and financial freedom through my business(s) in a way that would be affective and meaningful to my community and our culture. I’ve always been the DIY type of woman when it came to anything beauty (hair, nails, makeup, etc) so coming into the esthetics world, I’d had some prior experience since both of my mother’s best friends growing up were estheticians, one being my personal wax lady for my whole life… I’ve been soaking up the esthetics game all my life! I was always inspired by the instant gratification in esthetics; the before & after would be so mesmerizing to me, as well as the therapeutic feeling that came with being pampered; you could simply relax or express areas of concern in a safe, comfortable environment.

Being in a predominantly Caucasian taught esthetics program, I got to witness the concern for knowledge on or lack thereof, black or any ethnic skin type. Coming from years of bad acne/acne scarring, it was definitely disheartening to be in a place that couldn’t really educate me in depth, or teach me how to care for my own skin had I not known … As well as the audience I’m specifically targeting as a brand. People like me, who look like me, and understand how my skin functions.

I set out and began researching to educate myself more in depth from origins of conditions to key ingredients specific to skin heightened in melanin to create a specialized skincare set for those of my culture, who may deal with the skin concerns I have. So, in 2021 I created Kai Galore Skin And Kai Galore Aesthetics Company LLC. With intention of bringing awareness to self care in connection to PTSD, anxiety & depression, as well as bringing knowledge and positive results to black skincare in the metropolitan area. I used my somewhat known platform in the city to begin media marketing the hell out of my brand until I physically saw the outreach & the feedback I was getting from my community on my mission was incredible! So now here we are, just 1 year after starting my brand & you can bet your bottom dollar Kai Galore Skin & Aesthetics Company is just getting started!

Social media is the main source of marketing and promotion for Kai Galore Skin, as well as word of mouth. We are getting ready to take it up a couple notches so be on the look out for us!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has had its ups and its downs. Entrepreneurship is not easy and it is not for everybody. It’s take a certain level of hunger and drive to get up every single day and be holding yourself accountable for making this whole vision into your reality. There are days when I feel so discouraged or just not in the mood to create, even weeks. Sometimes you get so wrapped up in this vision you want so badly that the process can seem a bit excruciating, but that same drive that wakes you up is what keeps you working towards the dream. The ones who survive the hardest days in this world of business are the ones who see the abundance in the end. So, I just keep going in the hardest of the struggle because it makes me a more honest, humble, diligent boss.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My brand specializes in all natural skincare handcrafted by myself right here in the city; targeting acne, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, sun damage, inflamed skin and other skin conditions in the black and other ethnic communities. We also specialize in various aesthetic spa services from facials to waxes to body treatments.. even male skincare!

I’m most known for my facial or wax/vajacial experiences that not only leave you with a noticeable glow and effortless , FAST results that keep you coming back to get your self care in; But, paired with my easygoing aura and ability to connect with clients and really make my treatment area a safe, therapeutic place to open up & unwind.

This is my favorite part of the job & what sets my brand apart is genuinely connecting with my clients while building & maintaining those key relationships so they know they can trust my brand and continue to be loyal to our business. It literally fuels my drive to keep this vision going and hope that my brand one day becomes bigger than me and my story.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I just want to thank each and every one of my supporters and clients thus far from bookings to spa parties to selling out our online orders! The support has been unmatched, I promise you all will see this brand everywhere & those who know me personally, know I’m manifesting all my blessings in abundance, including your support! I appreciate you all so much for seeing my vision & trusting me to make the change by working diligently to bring better awareness to skincare & self care in general within our Kansas City communities. This brand being my first, is very near and dear to my heart as it was my saving grace. Beginning a legacy to leave behind for my daughter; Kai & future children, and most importantly aligning the stars for me to be able to truly honor my sister, Alaysia Nelson. (18, lost to Kansas City violence ) in a much broader fashion for the entire world to see & I don’t plan on stopping until the world learns not only my story, but hers too. LONGLIVELAY.
