Exploring Life & Business with Megan Mosier of Megan Gensky Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Mosier.

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I went to school for interior design at Johnson County Community College. Soon after, I was blessed with the opportunity to work for Magnolia down in Waco, Texas. I learned so much during my time at Magnolia but knew that I really wanted to work for a builder. Six months later, I was offered a job with a local builder in KC so I moved back and while working my first full-time design job, I pursued my Business Administration degree from Ottawa University. During this time, I was offered an amazing opportunity to buy a Christmas business from two designers that had been decorating homes for 25+ years! I knew this was the perfect opportunity for me to really get out on my own! Since then, the Christmas decorating business has grown so much and really connected me to so many amazing people in the community. I now work for several builders and with many clients that are building their dream homes or renovating their home.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy, but through lots of struggles, I’ve learned so much!

We’ve been impressed with Megan Gensky Interiors, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am an interior designer that specializes in holiday decorating, remodeling and new construction. I’m most proud of the holiday decorating business! It’s so unique and fun and I love that I get to see each of my clients year after year and do something that makes them so happy! It’s fun because it’s kind of its own special little business and who doesn’t love Christmas?!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Gosh, learning from others in the industry is probably one of the most beneficial ways to get into your industry! For me, I’ve always been a hands-on learner so many aspects of the job I’ve learned through different internships. I also think that a lot of times it really matters about who you know. Connections really do go a long way so it’s important to not only learn from a mentor but have someone that can possibly connect you to your next step.
