Exploring Life & Business with Matt K. Maurer of GoosebumpSports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt K. Maurer.

Hi Matt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started off with GoosebumpSports with a very simple idea. I remember that day, I was hanging out on the lake on my friend’s pontoon boat. As I relaxed next to the company of some of my close friends, I began rummaging through my iPhone notes and I came across a note page titled “Goosebump Sports”. The idea that I had written down months earlier was related to creating social media accounts where I would post moments in sports that “give you goosebumps”. So right then and there on the boat, I opened YouTube, screen-recorded a video of Chris Davis’ “Kick Six” and posted it to Instagram and Twitter. That was the very beginning of GoosebumpSports.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been an up-and-down road for sure. At first, I started off by posted any exciting, game-winning, jaw-dropping, or improbable play in sports I could find, but after just a month or two, my content began to teeter off. I was distracted, distracted by the looming presence of a personal project (a documentary I had been filming in the summer of 2020), and I was also distracted by the new idea of creating a podcast with my friend (first name omitted) Jones. We only have filmed one episode up to this date, but I intend on fully returning to podcasting once my brand is a bit more established. After a few months, my social media accounts became stagnant, as I went without posting for probably about 6 months or more…. however, recently I have gotten a second wind due to the sheer success my video posts have had on TikTok, and have been posting frequently. The TikTok account is now drastically more popular than the Instagram or Twitter account.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about GoosebumpSports?
I post moments in sports that give you goosebumps.

How do you think about happiness?
Chasing my dreams. Money will never make me happy; I’ll only be happy if I’m able to secure a job that I love doing on a daily basis—a job that I’d be willing to work for free because I love it so much.
