Exploring Life & Business with Lauren Leduc of True Love Yoga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Leduc.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have introduced to the practice of yoga 20 years ago when I was hospitalized as a teenager for an eating disorder. Being a high-achieving perfectionist, dancer honors student, and all-state singer, I crashed and burned hard at the age of 17. Although I didn’t begin my yoga career right away, it was the spark and introduction of a totally different approach to life, one where I was allowed to slow down and love myself as I was.

I had the whisper to someday teach yoga, but a full decade later, after moving away from my hometown of KC to Chicago and then Tampa, a mish-mash of education including dance, fashion, and graphic design, marketing, and business, and a slew of different jobs, I had grown, but was still in a rut and desperately needed to take care of my health. I knew there had to be a better path more aligned with my soul. After completing a Reiki (energy healing) training on a whim, my intuition told me to move back to Kansas City to be with my family.

I finally had the space and support to focus on emotional and physical healing. I fell head over heels for the yoga community here and dove deeply into my practice. Soon, I knew I had to follow through with the whisper of becoming a yoga teacher and go for it.

Another 10 years later, I own a beautiful donation-based yoga studio in Midtown Kansas City, True Love Yoga. I have traveled the world leading yoga retreats, I’ve trained almost 100 new yoga teachers, and led pop-up yoga classes all over the city. I am married to a fellow business owner (he owns KC Taco Company) and we have a beautiful baby girl named Gemma. Yoga and following my intuition have changed my life and brought so much joy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road! I had to struggle A LOT to find my Dharma (purpose) and have put years of blood, sweat, and tears into my creations.

I had to struggle through eating disorders, depression, anxiety, loneliness, relationship drama, mountains of student debt, and you name it to be directed to my life’s purpose. Once I did find it, although more joyful, the amount of time, energy, and work that has gone into building everything has been intense. Pair that with a husband who has built a successful and busy restaurant in the last five years, and you can imagine how chaotic our lives have been at times… but we love what we do and that is very important to us.

And navigating the last 18 months of a pandemic, pregnancy, and being a new mama while keeping a business afloat? It’s not for the faint of heart! But I have an amazing team and I feel so fortunate every day that we are resilient and can find joy amongst the struggle. We can THRIVE even when things are tough.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
True Love Yoga (formerly Karma Tribe Yoga) is Kansas City’s Premiere Pay-What-You-Can Yoga Studio with a beautiful, serene, and artistic location in Midtown KC and an online streaming yoga studio.

We provide a multitude of fun, safe, and trauma-aware yoga classes open to humans of all genders, races, sexual orientations, abilities, belief systems, and income levels. We believe that yoga belongs to EVERYONE and can transform your life from the inside out. Our students enjoy our welcoming community and our talented, heart-centered teachers.

I am extremely proud of our community. Our students, teachers, management staff, and yoga teacher trainees are truly the best. To anyone out there who doesn’t think they can practice yoga, YOU are welcome and YOU belong. To anyone out there with a seasoned yoga practice, we’ve got you too, boo!

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
When I was three, I got to perform a solo at World’s of Fun with the singing group I was in The Sunshine Generation. The song was “I Want to Be Happy” and the lyrics “When skies are grey and you say you are blue, I’ll send the sun shining through” have really stuck with me for life. I love serving others and helping them find JOY and THRIVE!

My parents have this on video and I love seeing three-year-old Lauren so tiny and belting out a song with difficult and prophetic lyrics.
