Exploring Life & Business with Ashley Bare of Hemma Hemma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Bare. 

Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised KC – food has always been an important aspect of my life. Got my BA at KU, have traveled a ton, decided to go to culinary school in NYC. Lived there for almost 7 years, worked as a private chef, culinary instructor, and server/bartender. Moved to central coast California for a couple years, but mostly worked out of the country as a private chef during that time. Decided to move back to KC to continue to do my thing — private chef and meal prep for people. During the pandemic, the meal prep + delivery portion of my business grew tremendously due to need and also a streamlining of operations on my part. So now I focus on that almost exclusively and will relaunch my company and services as Hemma Hemma come January! 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, I have very few complaints. Part of it is luck, but a lot of the “smooth road” is my attitude towards things. There are always struggles and difficulties, but learning to adapt and figure it out is part of the fun. I’ve always had an “it’s not the end of the world” attitude… because almost nothing is the end of the world. 

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I’m launching/re-launching as Hemma Hemma come January. Meal prep is and has always been a huge part of my business but I’m making it its own entity to grow and expand on its own.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course! Success is not possible alone. My dad and stepmom have always supported me and helped me along the way, like A LOT. My husband has recently joined my business but has always been a huge supporter for the last 3 years. The support of friends is also key. 

However, client feedback is what fuels me — for better or for worse, being told my food is yummy AND helpful during a busy work is the ultimate. 

And my kitchen team is awesome! They are down for anything, roll with the punches, and work incredibly hard. 

Couldn’t do it without all of these people in my life!
