Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicholas Guess

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Guess.

Hi Nicholas, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always had a love for the culture and diversity within the city, so naturally experiencing different restaurants and foods became something I absolutely love to do. I’m currently working on my doctorate in occupational therapy, but sharing my food adventures throughout Kansas City is what I like to do in my spare time. I started this adventure with the Yelp Elite KC group and quickly learned that Kansas City has so many restaurants, in addition to food experiences. After joining Yelp, I started my own food Instagram and have been sharing ever since. I’m typically the go-to-guy for brunch recommendations, cute coffee shops, or trendy bars, and I love discovering and experiencing new places with my friends. This little hobby has become a great way to meet new people, experience different cultures, and expand my taste palette.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the key to being successful in this area is just having fun and doing it because you love it. I never realized how many opportunities I would get through Yelp and Instagram, but the reason I started to join these groups is because I truly enjoyed getting to experience the food culture in my city. The more you share, the more opportunities will come your way. Since I never really expected to be involved in this area, it was a smooth road for me, and I’m constantly growing and continuing to share what I love.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m currently working on my doctorate in occupational therapy and work in pediatric medical rehabilitation, but I have side hustles in the food and music industries of Kansas City. As far as my food endeavors, I’m typically known for my recommendations of cute coffee shops, trendy bars, and unique brunch spots. I absolutely love when a restaurant has something that no one else does, but I also think it’s equally important to have an environment that matches the level of the food. The aesthetics and vibes of food culture is so important and sometimes it’s the first thing people look for. My page features all my adventures and is a unique way to get to know me. You can quickly discover what I like and tend to be drawn to, but I also have the perspective of a young millennial who places a large emphasis on the diversity and uniqueness of every place I visit. I’ve had so many wonderful experiences and moments with different people through the food world, and that’s what is most important to me.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is my parents waking me up before the sun to surprise me and my siblings with a trip to Disney World. We had no idea, and they had our suitcases packed up for the trip to the airport and everything. That was my first big trip out of Kansas City, and I loved getting to experience a whole new world of culture, as well as visiting the happiest place on earth.
