Daily Inspiration: Meet NJayC

Today we’d like to introduce you to NJayC.

Hi NJayC, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My music journey started all the way back when I was 8 years old. My mom signed me and my sister up for piano lessons and I was hooked. Playing those keys, I had never felt more alive. Shortly after that, I took up the saxophone. Here is where my music took a sharp turn. When I entered high school, I started taking an interest in writing my own music. I would rap into my phone while an instrumental is playing over the computer. I guess you could say that was my first time ever recording a rap of myself. At the age of 17, I released my first single, Mary Jane.

The music I accumulated during that time was the catalyst for my first mixtape, Also titled Mary Jane. Crazy to think that was 10 years ago now. And since then, I have had an EP released with DJ Grumble, 3 projects in and My career in music is really taking off. One thing I’ve learned through it all, is to never give up. I’ve had days where I wanted to quit, had days where I didn’t want to pick up the pen, had days where I felt so down on myself that I felt miserable. But that is when my best work came to play. When I put all of that pain into my craft and the music that I love. It’s been a journey, and it’s nowhere near done yet.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Lots of ups, lots of downs. As life progresses and moves on, it really changes your outlook and how you see things. My music has changed in the process of it all and I’ve learned to appreciate the good times and roll with the bad ones.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a rap artist. Most known for my Ep with DJ Grumble, Now You Know and my mixtape Progression. I am most proud of my newest music video, KC Anthem. What sets me apart is that I don’t just see me as a rapper, I am an artist. I intend to make the best music I can. And inspire others.
