Daily Inspiration: Meet Marie Mawby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Mawby.

Hi Marie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We are a small town band with big town talent!
Jacob Duncan-lead guitar/lead vocals, Marie Mawby-lead vocals, Robert Mawby-bassist, Jason Martinez-drums, and Larry Stringer-keyboards.
We all come from the same town; same high school in fact!
We all went our separate ways, but music brought us back together and closer than ever. We are a family who truly enjoys our craft.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has indeed not been easy, but nothing important comes without its trials. One of the most challenging aspects of being a musician in a small town is just that..the small town.
Don’t get me wrong at all! We love our small town, our friends, family, and fans, but we are different.
We don’t play for fame or money. We have no specific genre. We are who we are and we aim to play what we play in hope that our musicality makes you move.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I personally specialize in lifting up our youth. I’ve worked with children ranging in ages from 12 weeks to 24 years old. I’ve sang on stages holding other people’s children, helped at risk youth find careers, and led a high school dance team to some first place trophies.
As a once guarded youth myself, music helped me. I want to show our future that they can be a professional and still be who they are to their core. Music and youth advocacy are indeed at my core.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Put yourself around like minded people. You’re not going to find a tailor in a welding shop. Set yourself up for great things. Go out and seek them, and great things will come.
