Daily Inspiration: Meet Kathleen Spiking

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Spiking.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, Sunday has been my most favorite day of the week. Specifically because my family would go to brunch and then the open houses around our neighborhood. After college in 2010, I was living at home and decided I wanted to become a real estate agent. My parents wisely talked me out of it because at that time, the economy was not a good place for a fully commissioned fresh out of college professional. So I took a job in commercial construction marketing and learned a lot about construction, renovations and development. When I became pregnant with our first child, I knew I wanted to transition into a more flexible career, bringing me back to real estate.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think my biggest hurdle was learning the industry and growing my business, all while having a baby and then a second child shortly thereafter. I am lucky to have a fabulous mentor and friend who helped me transition into real estate and become a better Realtor. Since joining The Rob Ellerman Team at ReeceNichols two years ago, I’ve been able to get more behind the scenes support during a transaction, allowing me to focus 100% on helping my clients. That means I don’t pass my clients off to a coordinator once we go under contract on a home…they are stuck with me through the end and beyond!

My experience in commercial construction gave me applicable knowledge on building and renovating homes and how area developments can increase the values of surrounding neighborhoods. Further, my corporate background made me think about how I could make certain processes in real estate run smoothly for my clients.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Kansas City enthusiast, going so far as to become an official Kansas City Ambassador for VisitKC. I am passionate about our city’s neighborhoods, local business districts, architecture, and history.

I specialize in helping first-time home buyers navigate the real estate market, from getting preapproved all the way thru closing. I strive to make the home buying process easy and stress-free for everyone especially since buying a home is on of the largest investments you will make. I’m also known for my constant communication, friendly demeanor, and organization. I’m service-oriented and exceptionally hard working.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I’m a human connector! I love helping people, whether it is referring an HVAC service provider to a colleague or client, or recommending the restaurant around the corner to someone exploring a new area of Kansas City. I also enjoy meeting new people and learning about them.
