Daily Inspiration: Meet Isha Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isha Williams.

Hi Isha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ice Studios School of Dance began as an exercise class for children and adults as of August 2008 with only 11 students. Now fast forward to 13 years later, we are now teaching over 100 youth per month in teaching a variety of dance classes and providing healthy snacks to over 100 families per week. Our program offers affordable dance classes, performances for the community, work-study programs, and scholarships for students in need.

The educational component of our program consists of college prep classes, financial classes, free youth mentorship services, and Health and Nutrition Fitness workshops. ICE STUDIOS provides a creative space using dance, theatre, and physical fitness with inspired themes, music, and curriculum for youth ages 2 to 18. We strive to condition the bodies and minds of young people to live a healthy and balanced lifestyle. We spend over 80 hours each month creating a Legacy to make a significant difference in helping youth become healthy young adults. We also offer outreach dance programs to In-school and Afterschool programs, churches, and community centers.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ice Studios School of Dance was a long time coming; it took us nine years to be able to hire extra staff members, find good workers and our biggest challenge of most is getting the funding. We have done a great job and sustaining ourselves for the last 13 years but still need help in finding board members, funding, paying for a full-time director and administrative time, lastly, affording a building we can grow into.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me the most is making the students I teach become healthy young adults and gain opportunities, resources and knowledge that I never had at their age. I did not have a mentor growing up and I want to make sure when I come across a talented student or a child in need that they get everything they need to be successful.
