Daily Inspiration: Meet Hayley Pacheco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayley Pacheco.

Hayley, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have loved cameras since I was little! I remember getting my first digital camera in grade school. I would have photoshoots with my neighbors all the time. Before that, we used disposable cameras. The photo albums I have of those days are priceless!

Fast forward to college – I served as the public relations chair for my sorority and was gifted a crop frame camera to document our events. I never really took the time to learn all the functions of the camera. Looking back, I wish I had started then.

After several years of my camera collecting dust and seven months of a pandemic, I decided it’s now or never! I knew I would never have as much time on my hands as I did then so I went for it. I signed up for a zoom class with a local photographer who was teaching a “shoot in manual” class. Once I got the hang of that, I ordered a new lens, practiced on my friends and family, and eventually upgraded my camera too!

The past year has been a blast. I somehow fell into the niche of motherhood/ family photography and I love every second of it! I get to hang out with the sweetest families, newborn babies, and expecting mothers. I’m continuously learning, growing, and thinking of what I will do next!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest struggle was getting started. I had thought about starting a business for years but there was always something stopping me… and it was 99% my thoughts. “What will people think?” “What if I’m not good enough?” “What if no one wants to book with me?”

After seeing so many people start hobbies at the beginning of the pandemic I thought to myself “Well, if they can do it, so can I.” I can’t say it’s been smooth sailing since then. There is so much to learn, especially at the beginning! But the biggest hurdle was putting myself out there.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a motherhood and family photographer. I specialize in lifestyle family, newborn, and maternity sessions as well as milestone sessions throughout the baby’s first year.

I strive to have the best client experience and service. My two main goals for every session are to get amazing photos and for your family to have a great time as we do it! I’m also lucky enough to be in a season of life where I can respond fairly quickly to inquiries and get galleries out the door in about a week.

I know it will not always be that way but I will always aim to go above and beyond client expectations.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Community over the competition! In the beginning, I hesitated to reach out to other photographers for advice because I didn’t want to step on anyone’s toes. However, I’ve learned there are so many wonderful people in our community who are willing to share and help out new photographers.

I still consider myself a newbie but I am always willing to share tips and tricks I’ve learned so far. In my opinion, it only makes our community stronger.
