Daily Inspiration: Meet Emily Fyten

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Fyten.

Hi Emily, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out just doing weddings but opened my first retail store in 2007. The original location was at 151st and Nall, but we moved to Park Place in 2010. We started out there in a very small (400 sq ft) location on Ash Street but moved around the corner onto 116th Place five years later so we could double our space.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road the whole time. The most recent struggle that comes to mind is when we had to close the business last March during the shutdown. Thankfully Kansas approved us as an essential business, so we were able to reopen for deliveries after only being closed for two weeks. Some of the growers were forced to shut down too and are still affected by it, so the market has been a little unpredictable on what flowers are available.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a family-owned business and have a small, experienced staff. Most of them have been with the business for several years. We love using seasonal and unique flowers. There are several classic flowers we get in year-round, but most of the time, our arrangements will be different depending on the season.

Our website allows you to pick your price point and color palette for arrangements rather than having to pick a specific arrangement. This allows us to bring in the prettiest flowers available from all of our suppliers to use for the week rather than trying to stick with a specific “menu” of options. We also offer ongoing flower subscriptions (monthly, weekly, bi-weekly). Delivery is free after the first order and you can pause or stop it whenever you like. In addition to fresh flowers, we also carry a variety of plants and dried flowers.

What makes you happy?
I love being creative and I am grateful to be able to work in a creative environment every day. I also love helping people send their loved ones (or even themselves) something to help brighten their day. Most of our customers are ordering from us to try and bring joy to someone else, which is very rewarding.
