Conversations with Morgan Wenger

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Wenger.

Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Pink Antlers is a mother & daughters owned shop. I’m the middle daughter and lived on the East Coast post college. While there, I opened an Etsy shop as a creative outlet. My Etsy shop was tied to party decor, and I loved the idea of being able to have a shop where you could get everything for a party, not just what I was making. When I moved back in KS in 2013, I really started to think about opening up a party shop and started saving for it. By 2016 I was ready to make the move to be a full-time small business owner. I signed a lease in Park Place to open up a paper, party & gift shop. My mom & sisters were part of every step, and soon after opening my younger sister joined me full time. My older sister & mom work part-time & assist with buying. We are coming up on five years of business and just signed a lease to a new space here in Park Place that we are so excited to build out our dream store!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We have been extremely blessed in that we have steadily grown over the past five years. We have had small hurdles like every business, but all in all we have just kept our heads down, focused on what we love & the experience we want to give our customers & that has helped sustain us & our business.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We started this shop because of our love for all things paper, party & decorating. Our mom always played around with the idea of opening up a home decor shop in our hometown and her passion of that rubbed off on all of us girls. Over the years, we have been paper & office supply obsessed (raiding our dad’s office & back to school shopping was always the BEST). Because of our interests, we just went in with finding items we personally love and hoped our customers would also love. Combining paper, party & home decor into one little shop didn’t always make the most sense in theory, but we just went with our gut & followed our passions and brought it all together.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Two that I think are super relative to our shop is when we would go to our dad’s office and the secretary would let us go into the supply room to pick out pens & paper. We loved that & would come home and play office. We had a play office set up for years and it’s fun to think back on that time of running a pretend business in our playroom, to now actually running a business together!

Another one is going to our grandpa’s and walking the fields to pick up antler sheds. I loved collecting them and had many in my apartments when I was living in Connecticut. One day while “crafting” I spray painted some of those antlers… pink.
