Conversations with Garrison Vernon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Garrison Vernon. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Boy Soprano started with humble roots. Garrison Vernon and Marek Koch met in elementary school and started making music together by the age of 10. Through years of cover band and basement projects, they met drummer Jacob Smith while in high school. When the boys finished school, they kept making music together and began writing some of their own. Before long, they had enough of a repertoire to begin playing shows in local clubs. They now have one full album released and an EP on the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road for Boy Soprano has been mostly easygoing. Being the three small-town boys that they are they have just fallen into place and stuck there. However, it would be fair to say that the coronavirus pandemic affected them as badly as anyone else. Being for to go without any shows out for fourteen months and having several delays in recording their upcoming EP (titled Little League). All in all though, it has been a rather trouble-free journey for the band.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Being a three-piece band with a loud and brash garage rock sound reminiscent of the alternative scene of the 1990s known for high energy performances is one thing. Another thing altogether is the personal bonds within the band. All three members have been very close friends for almost a decade now which leads to unique chemistry in their music both in the studio and on stage.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I expect the industry to change in some minor but very distinct ways. I foresee a shift away from major labels and towards deals with the primary streaming platforms. With radio on its way out as the main people listen to their music, you can expect to see the rising importance of getting placed on highlighted and recommend playlists on streaming services for artists to get exposure.
