Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazn Tarjali.
Hi Yazn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a kid, I have always had interest in how things were made & just being different. Around 2016 my mother bought a sewing machine for her to learn how to sew. I took the machine, put it together myself, and started practicing on vinyl I bought from the fabric store. I then started making little wallets and selling them. Over time I started teaching myself how to make hoodies out of velvet fabric, shirts, etc. I got my first celebrity client, Jacquees to wear a denim jacket I designed for him. I noticed after that things started to pick up. I was in high school while I was going to concerts to present my brand to celebrities. I remember I got out of school, rushed to finish my homework, and went to the Sprint Center to get Chris Brown a hoodie I recently released at the time. The rest of my high school years consisted of me developing my brand and planning out what’s next for me after high school. My high school teachers were very supportive of what I had going on, they knew what my mission was and helped me grow while I was in high school. They understood why certain assignments or projects couldn’t get done in the time they asked me to do it, I had a mission besides school. Right before I graduated high school, I learned how to create messenger bags. I got the opportunity to have Shaq O’neal’s son, Shareef O’neal to wear my bag I created. I started getting a lot of attention on the bags I started to create. I graduate high school in 2018 and go straight to community college and attempt to get my associate’s in Business management. My college professors became aware of what I was doing out of college and some started to question me on why I was in college if I knew what I wanted to do. My mentality slowly started to shift over time to where I just wanted to focus on developing my company. I realized school wasn’t the route for me when I had a 4-page essay due the same night I had to go to work & be on a bus at 6 am to go to St. Louis & present a custom hoodie to Nick Cannon. Trying to balance working a regular job, going to school, & building my brand was not doing anything but burning me out mentally & physically. In 2019 I decided to drop out and continue to work a regular job and continue to grow my company. In 2020 I decided to quit my job and focus fully on growing my company. In 2021 I started to become more consistent with putting out new pieces and I got the opportunities to create bags for NBA players Andre Drummond & Deandre Bembry. The ultimate goal for my brand is to be able to bring the streetwear into luxury.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road in building an empire unless you come from a family who has a business background or wealth, I come from neither. I have been blessed to be around and close with people who can guide me and give me advice to keep going in the right direction. Some struggles I do face is being consistent and being judged by people when I reveal my age. With me being only 21 some assume that all I would like to do is party and “live my best life” when in reality I am focused on my mission in life, which is being one of the biggest creatives in the world. As I continue to grow, I will become more consistent. With me being a perfectionist, it is hard trying to put out work and not worry about it being “perfect”.
We’ve been impressed with YAZN GLOBAL, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a fashion designer, creative, creative director. I specialize in creating/designing clothing, bags, & accessories. What separates me from others is I focus on the quality of anything I put out and I mix up streetwear and luxury. One day I could design a pair of distress denim jeans and have a photoshoot at a skate park with someone skating in them or someone walking in them in downtown Kansas City. The next day I could design and create a leather duffle bag that someone could take with them on a private jet. The most thing I am proud of brand-wise is the yearly progress I have been making as a brand.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was a popular loner. I was cool with everyone but I have always kept a small circle. Just like most kids, I had trouble finding who I was for a while but over time I did. As a kid/young teen my interests were skateboarding, WWE, and music. I also enjoyed watching behind-the-scenes of music videos or show rehearsals.
