Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Schill.
Hi Julie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I graduated from Ohio State University with a marketing degree and moved to Kansas City 15 years ago for a job at a large corporation. I worked in corporate America for 14 years and was looking for an artistic outlet. At first, it was photography that literally clicked for me. It began with me taking photos of my own kiddos. Trying to pause time and document each moment. Slowly my personal passion morphed into J Bryant Photography. A few years later, I was ready for another creative outlet. I’ve always had a passion for writing and an interest in health and wellness, so I started J Bryant Agency, a health and wellness copywriting agency.
Today, I run both J Bryant Photography and J Bryant Agency. I’m what I like to call a multi-passionate, multipreneur.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is never an easy road. It’s more like driving on a brick road in a car that has one flat tire. There are so many challenges when starting a small business. For me, I started J Bryant Photography while still working full-time and caring for my then 3-year-old daughter. Simply finding the time to focus on honing my skills, providing the best service, or managing the business was a real challenge at the beginning. Now that I’ve been in business for a few years, I struggle with how best to grow and expand both businesses. And how to feel confident stepping off each new ledge that the business faces. But honestly, the struggles are what makes these businesses interesting and exciting. Plus, they are my struggles to solve and that feels empowering.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about J Bryant Photography and J Bryant Agency?
I’m not your typical photographer. I’m a hybrid of sorts. I like to mix standard portrait photography with authentic, natural images. Images that display energy, love, and connection. Images that bring you back to that exact moment in time. As a natural light photographer, I enjoy photographing newborns, kiddos, families, seniors, couples, maternity, and more.
I like to think that with a click of my lens, I’m able to capture the small moments that define our lives. Whether out in one of Kansas City’s many beautiful locations or cozy at home, I strive to share in a small piece of my client’s life. Helping them to hit the pause button and capture the fleeting moments forever.
On the other hand, at J Bryant Agency, I focus on providing functional, naturopathic, and holistic healthcare providers with high-quality, strategic marketing collateral to elevate their business’s online presence. I strive to partner with providers to craft compelling copy that helps them to build the business of their dreams.
Having experienced the power of alternative medicine myself, I live by and believe in what I write about. I have a passion for writing for alternative medical providers. And I believe that having fresh, engaging content backed by the latest scientific research and superior SEO will draw their ideal patients to their offices – and keep them coming back.
At the end of the day, both J Bryant Photography and J Bryant Agency are about thinking outside the box, developing strong relationships, and having a great time.
What were you like growing up?
I wish I could say that I’ve always had a passion for photography. Or that I was a natural writer as a child. Sadly, neither of those is true. I wasn’t into sports or the prom queen. Instead, I focused on school, dance and surrounded myself with a close, tight-knit group of friends.
I studied dance from the age of 10 or so through college. For a long time, I thought I wanted to be a modern dancer and join the Alvin Ailey dance theatre. There was even a brief point in time that I wanted to head to New York and be a Rockette. Sadly, I was too short to even try out. So, I did what seemed the responsible choice and went to business school.
Artistic expression was ingrained in me as a kid. Something that my entire family shares in our own unique ways. And while dancing went to the wayside as an adult, the desire for an artistic outlet never left.
