Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Fedor-Motes.
Hi Erin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started in this industry about 15 years ago- I had just moved to Missouri from the East Coast and needed direction or ideas about what I wanted to do with my life. Flash forward to today, and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. I think back to the first interview I did with you guys, and ever since then, things have grown and flourished more than I could have imagined. After the previous 15 years in this industry, I took on my newest role in October of last year: salon ownership! It’s been a crazy ride, but I love every moment.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh Jeez. There’ve been a million bumps and setbacks almost daily. I wake up and wonder, “what’s next?” But that’s the beauty of growth. “What’s next?” can either be anticipating disaster or welcoming change, and the next chapter in your life is about perspective.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Göt Hair Midtown?
We’re an eclectic, creative salon space in the heart of Westport, KCMO! We specialize in a bit of everything, but primarily we focus on fantasy colors, blonding, and balayage. We believe beauty is undefined, raw, and inclusive, and we love our community! We’re both women, and LGBTQ+ owned and operated, and we hope to create an environment where anyone can walk in and immediately feel like they belong.
What characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to if you had to?
Drive. The ability to keep going when it feels like all you’re hearing is “no.” If I’d stopped my momentum every time someone told me I couldn’t do it, or I was dreaming too big; I’d never have gotten this far. I’ve still got a long way to go, but I’ve still got a lot of momentum.
