Community Highlights: Meet Eric Rodricks of Culinary Creations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Rodricks. 

Hi Eric, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was working as an Executive Chef at a retirement home, which had its perks – good benefits, reasonable hours, etc when I realized it wasn’t fulfilling my passions as a chef. I wanted to be creative, cook amazing food and bring joy to people who eat my food. So, I decided to start my catering company, Culinary Creations, in 2018. Originally Culinary Creations was my side hustle but when I noticed how much I enjoyed it, I knew it had to have my full attention. So, in May of 2021, I took a leap of faith into entrepreneurship. 

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
To start, it was so difficult to establish your brand and get your name out to the communities. I’ve been very lucky to have mentors within my career that have supported me but even with the additional help, it was difficult to get leads on events. Every day was a grind of “how do I get my name out there?” 

Of course, covid brought its own set of complications. People weren’t having events or large group gatherings, so we had to improvise! We did food deliveries, drop-off tastings for people who were having small gatherings, and a couple covid weddings. 

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Culinary Creations?
Culinary Creations is a full-service catering company. We are available for all events, large or small, corporate/business events, private chef events, vendor events, and food deliveries. What sets us apart from other catering companies is that we prefer to personalize each menu for each event. We have never had to same menu twice. We like to get to know the client and personalize a menu around their wants and needs. We feel this creates a better environment for everyone involved including the hosts and guests! We also have a wide variety of food specialties. You talk to one person, they will say our street tacos are the best, you talk to a different person, they say our lasagna is the best, and the next will say our burgers are the best. 

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
You have to be patiently aggressive.
