Check Out Whitney Pearce’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Pearce

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi! I’m Whitney, and sewing has been a lifelong passion of mine. My journey began as a child, scavenging scraps from the dresses my mom made for my sister and me to create Barbie clothes, pillows, and little projects of my own—something I was already doing by age six. By the time I turned 12, I had my very first sewing machine and was hooked.

In high school, I took FACS classes to expand my skills and combined my love for sewing with a flair for art. In my early twenties, I worked at David’s Bridal, where I quickly discovered that sales wasn’t my calling. I was drawn to the creativity and precision of alterations, so I transitioned into that department and spent four years perfecting my craft. While I enjoyed the work, I learned that long hours and the rollercoaster of bridal seasons weren’t for me.

For over 20 years, I’ve been running an alterations business from home as a side job while working as a teacher. In April 2023, I took a leap and moved my business out of my basement into a dedicated sewing space, lovingly called my Studio—a place where my creativity and passion for sewing truly come to life.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. Balancing the ups and downs of a sewing business—where some months are busier than others—along with the demands of being a mother to three children has been challenging. However, taking the leap to move my business out of the house and into its own dedicated space stands as one of my greatest accomplishments. I’m incredibly grateful for the growth and opportunities it has brought!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a business owner and seamstress, I deeply value the importance of achieving the perfect fit. I take the time to listen to my clients’ needs and strive to ensure they feel confident and their very best in every garment I alter or item I create. Keeping my prices as reasonable as possible is a priority, and I truly appreciate the loyalty of those who return to me time and time again. I also value small businesses here in Leavenworth and strive to work with others when I can!

What makes you happy?
Many people who teach love the “Aha” moment of when a student perfectly understands a concept or learns a new skill. I am a teacher, but not only that, I have found that as a seamstress, I yearn for that “Aha” moment, as well. The “Aha” moments comes when a bride’s tears fall from sheer joy when she sees the dress of her dreams fitting her perfectly, or when a client tells me how much better or more comfortable they feel once I’ve altered their garment and they are trying it on for the final fitting. And also, last but not least, but when I receive pictures from the event and they tell me how wonderful they felt in that gown on that day! It’s a great feeling!
