Check Out Tylaina Ellis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tylaina Ellis.

Tylaina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story for this journey began in my teenage years. My earlier aspirations and goals were key to my success as a cheerleader, member on the swim team, and different community activities. I would visit home shows and open houses with my grandmother and it is at that point I became interested in real estate. With real estate always in the back of my mind, I went to college and obtained both my Bachelors and Masters degrees; after which I started working in the corporate world, got married and started a family. After a few years as a stay-at-home mom, I headed back to the corporate world. Having decided I had put my real estate dreams on hold long enough, I reached out to different brokerages and began the process to enroll in real estate classes, eventually passing the test to become a realtor. This brings us to where I am at now, which is in the beginning phases of my realtor career. I have joined a fantastic brokerage company, Walker Realty Co., and thanks to a brilliant real estate team, I have already gained valuable knowledge within this real estate field.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The challenges I experienced happened while I was trying to decide if becoming a realtor was my best option. Having a career, husband, and two small children slowed my progress and justified my procrastination. My husband was very supportive; however, it was my own choice to put my dreams on hold and focus on my family. The lesson learned is that timing is everything when chasing your dreams. Deciding to put off getting my real estate license for a few years worked to my advantage and I’m now able to devote more time and energy to my real estate passion. Since this was something I always wanted to do, I’m eager and excited to take in all the information coming my way. I am very happy with this decision and have met so many wonderful people that are helping me to build connections. With the amount of support and motivation I have received thus far, I am ready to approach any struggles and roadblocks with confidence. I have learned in my early years, that although life may have stumbling blocks, I am prepared to face them with courage and strength knowing that I have full support from my family and friends.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
It might be easier for me to say what it is that I do not do. I say this because I have always been an overachiever. Real estate is just the next step in my journey. I strive daily to be the best wife and mother and I am always looking for challenges to keep me pushing towards the goals that I have established for myself. As it relates to real estate, I am always asking myself who do I want to serve, how do I want to assist them in accomplishing a goal and WHY am I doing this? I have discovered that my why is because I want to love what I do while serving others. This is accomplished by helping people take their next steps in real estate, whatever that might be. Anything from selling their first home or purchasing a new home, I want to provide guidance, support, and trust. Leaving them with the best experience possible, with minimal stress and knowing they had a great Realtor helping them along the way. When I think about what would set me apart from other Realtors, it is to ensure their real estate process goes smoothly and be that someone who truly listened and cared about their needs.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I LOVE to read; however, I do not have any book suggestions related to real estate at the moment, so if you’re reading this and have any good ones, please let me know! As far as podcasts, I’ve listened to several that I have really enjoyed, which include: Kansas City RealTalk, Women Rocking Real Estate, and BiggerPockets – Real Estate Rookie. I would love to learn more about investing, so I will be venturing out to find books and information related to that topic.

As this questionnaire comes to an end, I’d like again to mention the people who I credit in giving me the help and support needed to help me be a Realtor. My husband, mom, children, and longtime friends have been loving, supportive and patient and I am forever grateful. I would also like to say that since I’ve joined Walker Realty Co., the team of ladies have been a great resource with all their experience and expertise guiding me along the way. It is great working with people who have your best interest in mind and that are always available to give advice and answer questions, all while encouraging me to be my very best.
