Check Out Patricia Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patricia Johnson.

Hi Patricia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had this love for photography ever since I was a little girl. When we would go visit relatives or friends, most times I would be caught by bookshelves and coffee tables looking through photo albums. I was always trying to see if I could recognize the people in them or even just catch a glimpse of what a family member who may have passed on looked like as young person. When I originally set out to start my own business, photography wasn’t even a part of the vision. I originally started creating postcard-style invitations because I just wasn’t finding what I was looking for when I was doing my children’s birthday invitations. But, eventually my true love of photography took over. I do, however still create invitations but my primary focus is around families and capturing their memories. I believe a photograph is a visual time capsule that helps record a part of your family’s history. I’ve been using my home studio for the last couple of years but have decided to take the leap and I am moving into a new location as we speak.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but that’s what makes this journey that much more special. This journey has been interesting because for one, I have always been an introvert, but being in photography has forced me to meet and talk to some pretty amazing people. It’s also been hard trying to make my way into a super-saturated market and distinguishing myself from other photographers. There are some pretty amazing photographers in the Kansas City metro area and I used to struggle with comparison, but I’ve come to realize that there’s no one out here like me because there’s only one of me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I currently offer photography services for families, children, high school seniors and weddings. But my speciality is maternity and newborns. There is this amazing beauty in motherhood and babies that is hard to put into words, so I put them into pictures. I think one of the biggest things people know me for is the ability to connect with them on a personal level and not just another customer. I want people to enjoy coming to the studio or having their photos taken at an outdoor location. I don’t ever want it to feel like its a chore.

What makes you happy?
Besides photography… God and my family. I’ve been blessed to have the most supportive husband and children who support all my crazy ideas. I never want to take for granted that I’ve been given a pretty amazing gift as well having the most amazing clients.
