Check Out Luke Miller’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luke Miller.

Hi Luke, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into fitness started in high school, not just from a love of sports, but from a personal desire to grow stronger—physically and mentally. That journey ended up becoming my career.

I developed a passion for exercise in early high school. I was a skinny kid who wanted to get stronger and more athletic for sports. After about a year of consistent weight training, I was amazed at how much it improved my confidence and reduced my anxiety. I played sports in the fall and spring, and during the winter and summer, I spent most of my time in the gym.

One summer during my junior year, while working out at a commercial gym, I ran into two classmates from my high school. They asked if we could train together, and for the next two years, we motivated each other and made incredible progress as a group.

Eventually, I learned that the mother of one of my training partners had a connection to the owner of a local studio gym. I was curious about what a future in personal training could look like, so at 18, I became certified and started shadowing the owners of a fitness studio called Kondition Haus.

I’ve always had a deep love for people, their stories, and building a sense of community—something I feel incredibly lucky to experience in my career every day. I work primarily with general population clients ranging in age from 14 to 75. I’m a strong believer in fostering long-term growth, and I strive to help my clients feel that we’re consistently progressing and becoming stronger year after year. I love my job because I train people from all different walks of life, occupations, and experiences. Working with my clients feels like being part of a close-knit, supportive family.

This July 2025 marks the beginning of my seventh year as a personal trainer!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My life and career hasn’t come without obstacles. I started training in 2018 and I would say it took 6 months before I could quick my second job and personal training full time. Building a book and trying to sell people on the promise of personal training can be difficult when you’re an 18 year old kid with a small amount of life experience.

When I finally felt like I had made a successful full year of training the 2020 pandemic hit. I moved back in with my parents and tried to train folks on zoom the best I could. It was a tough time, but I look back on it as more time spent with my family. After 2020 it felt like I had to almost start back from the bottom.

I went to college and graduated from KU in 2023 with a degree in exercise science. I will say that for several years it felt like Groundhog Day working 30 hours a week and going to school full time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a certified personal trainer that trains young professionals and people looking to age gracefully. I would say I’m most known for being a positive energy and making clients feel reinvigorated. I’m proud to have a job that allows me to see so many great people daily. I see some of my clients more than they see some of their family members. The bonds I’ve been able to build over the last seven years have made me so appreciative for the opportunity. My goal as a personal trainer is to make every client I have feel like they’re my only client. I take notes on things I talk about during our session. I read, listen, and watch recommendations with my clients and collaborate with them about their health and goals. I want to really make them feel the personal part of personal training.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned along the way is sometimes all some needs from you is to listen. I sometimes feel like our everyday lives and thoughts miss perspective and I love to hear everyone’s. I have tried to become a better active listener instead of trying to think about what I’m gonna say after them.
