Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Concannon.
Hi Kaylee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2016, I welcomed my first child into the world and found myself with the heavy weight of postpartum depression. I suddenly felt part of an industry full of toxic thoughts and ideas surrounding beauty. More than anything, I wanted to be a role model for my daughter. I wanted to show her how to smash glass ceilings and to be proud of who she was on an inner level. The industry had lost its lust for me. Some may call it serious soul searching, some may call it a mental breakdown, but I knew I had 2 choices- leave the hair world or go all in. From there, Uplifted Salon was born. Flash forward 5 years later, I’m proud to say both the business and myself are still alive and well.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When opening Uplifted, I wanted to create a beautiful space that could provide stylists with an unmatched environment to create, learn, and live a balanced lifestyle. I laugh at myself now, as that girl 5 years ago truly believed, “if you build it, they will come” I had zero experience in leadership, so building and maintaining a strong team was a huge learning curve. Aside from the big ones ( hello, pandemic!), there is a new challenge almost daily, but growth breaks things. With each new milestone we hit comes a new challenge and lesson. As a team, we remain committed to rising above the challenges, learning the lessons, and constantly leveling up the experience we provide for our community.

We are committed to creating a color that works for you and your lifestyle. Always wear your hair up in a bun? We want to know! Can only commit to appointments 4 times a year? Let’s make it work! Your visit will start with a warm smile, a cool beverage, and a thorough consultation every single time. Mix in some amazing conversation, and you will walk out our doors, loving life and shouting from the rooftops. Our artists are highly trained and committed to mastering the craft of customized dimensional hair color and luxury bridal styling. We are also very excited to have added extensions to our service menu in 2022 and remain committed to our vision of becoming The Luxury Extensions Salon of Columbia, MO.
What do you think about luck?
I like to believe in holding on loosely. When we hold onto something too tightly that has the potential to be magic, we kill it by controlling it instead of allowing it to grow to its full potential. By (attempting) to have this mindset, luck has played a role in allowing Uplifted to become all she has.
